Because They've Given Up Hope Of Teaching Them To Read, Write And Add Up....

Schools in north Essex need to tackle the issues of teenage pregnancy, obesity and drug misuse, according to a new report.
*sigh*

Of course, there's plenty who welcome the chance to get more involved in areas that don't concern them. Like this chap:
Stephen Chamberlain, principal at the Clacton Coastal Academy, welcomed the information and said the academy worked constantly to address these issues.

He added: “These are our priority areas, which are well covered already. But the partnership’s data helps us to target the priorities and we are always happy to have more information.

“We have a duty to look after our young people so when they leave us, they can lead healthy lives.”
No, you have a duty to educate them. That's all.

Come back to us when you can do that perfectly, and then we might think about letting you expand your remit to areas that are, frankly, no concern of yours.

Think about it, mind you, that's all...

I certainly have similar gut responses AP. Yet I have seen sex education run so much better in general across Europe I'm inclined to move in the Dutch much as we did to reclaim The Wash.
I no longer know how we can make sensible education decisions, given all the lies and hype on standards. You'd think, if any of it was working, 14 - 17 year olds would not be queuing so readily for bad sex (surely it must be?) and the pain of pregnancy and child-minding?

Why try to give them an education? That wastes valuable time when we could be shuffling data to make ourselves look good.

Would that educating the little shits was all we were expected to do. Unfortunately there has been a rather large, what shall we call it? Mission creep perhaps? over the last few years. Governmment now expects schools to do all of the things that parents used to do back when "parent" was still a verb.

Most of us in the education sector would like nothing more than to be able to simply educate our roomsfull of little darlings, but we're now so overburdened with hitting "social" targets too that simple academic instruction takes somewhat of a back seat.

Oh, and just a a piss-boiling aside, we're no longer allowed to "brainstorm" since that is, apparently, offensive to certain brands of retard. We have to "mind-map" instead. Fucking progressives.

They do seem to be winning that particular war, don't they?

There's always the temptation to do what they do, but we forget the culture is different. What works for them may well not work for us. Or even make things worse...

I think we gave up on that long ago...

"Governmment now expects schools to do all of the things that parents used to do back when "parent" was still a verb."

And I see it's set to continue along that path, with Frank Field expected to suggest 'parenting classes' to break the cycle of poverty.

No, not for those who already are parents. For the next generation...

Is that still going? I was told that about 5/6 years ago!

'Fraid so. Though since I enjoy being a dick at training sessions I still usually manage to invoke the disapproval of the head by slipping "brainstorm" in wherever I can ;)
