It Worked With People! Right? Right..?

'Dog Absos' should be introduced across Britain in order to keep aggressive pets under control, according to the British Veterinary Association.

Under the plan, specific dangerous dogs and their owners would be targetted with anti-social behaviour orders in the same way as individuals are.
Because the human ASBO scheme has been such a rip-roaring success, it’s just got to work well with dogs too, right?
Councils would be able to issue restrictions on dog owners who did not control their pets, forcing them to control the dog using a muzzle, a leash or by having them neutered.

Those that failed to do so could face a hefty fine.
Oh, super!

Surely the sort of people who own these dogs and let them menace other animals and people will be the sort to pay their fines...

This can't fail, I tell you!

But what happens if the dog with an ASBO gives a police officer a bit of lip?

How about we apply this bit to the owners rather than the pets?

This looks a lot like normal asbos applied to people with anti social dogs. I don't see why a specific new dog asbo is needed.

Up our way in Hartlepool we know it's quite in order to punish a monkey for spying; the Government are merely extending this principle to include other species and other offences.

A dog licence could be a start...

That's what their truncheons are for!

Yes, far too many of these animal-based laws concentrate on the wrong end of the leash...

Me neither. If you can apply an ASBO stopping you from shouting loudly during sex, surely you can apply one with these conditions?

Not sure about that. There's lots of reasons not to bring it back - collective 'punishment' of responsible dog owners, the types we need to target wouldn't buy it anyway, we'd need more civil servants to administer it, etc...
