Real Men Don't Eat Quiche...

...and if they are under 21, they can't even buy it in Tesco:
Quite how it happened Tesco themselves have been unable to explain.

One theory is that the cashier mistook a bleep, as the quiche passed over the scanner, for an age prompt such as exists for tobacco and alcohol.

Another possibility was that because the quiche was handed over at the deli counter and not picked up by Christine herself that, too, required an age check.
Surely there's a far more prosaic explanation?

That being that Tesco employs people unable to think for themselves, and unwilling to challenge what seems to be an obvious mistake on their part.

In short, people that no longer believe in customer service but in servitude to 'the computer' or to whatever barmy government edict comes down the pike...

And I've no idea why this customer thought the answer to this situation was to meekly show her driving licence, instead of doing as Al Jahom suggests; that must have been one very desirable quiche!

Yeah, we're finished. Had a pretty good innings though. Nearly a thousand years. Not bad.

Probably because they are young girls and boys that the govt. have scared about penalties for selling alcohol, or knives, or glue, or paracetamol, or 100w light bulbs, or bananas by the pound, so they err on the side of caution. Housewives and students work there part time, but let's face it, generally speaking, you wouldn't find the next mastermind behind the till

It ought to be a simple enough process of deduction, though - this item is wrongly labelled, apologise to the customer, call the manager to overrise it.
