Move It Monday: July

I'm not generally a fan of rap, and it no doubt will be said that this artist is the family-friendly vanilla ice cream of rap (no, not that one!) though that might have changed since The Slap, but I do really love Will Smith's 'Miami' for its infectious beat and great lyrics:

I would have been sorely pressed to tolerate more than a few seconds of this dissonant rubbish. And I foresee the day arriving when The Racist Finder General will be banging on doors, demanding a signed statement from like minds, detailing any refusal to accept such noise as 'Music'.

Like you I'm no great fan of rap. However every now and then comes a rap track that transcends its genre. Your choice is of course one, but another is 'Brenda's Got A Baby' by 2PAC, the tragic story of an abused girl who has a baby by her abuser and who then sinks into the gutter and oblivion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRWUs0KtB-I

The first wave of Wu-Tang Clan albums have more invention and wit than any amount of Coldplay, Radiohead, U2 etc...

First NWA album is "Nevermind The Bollocks" of rap...

Public Enemy are The Clash...

I could go on x

I've noticed that the young in my area are 'all' listening to ... AC/DC, Motorhead, etc. Why, because it is from an era when to 'make it' bands and singers had to 'do the circuit' (pubs, clubs, etc.) to build up a following, before (sometimes after years) eventually getting a record contract.

Now? there isn't a single one not totally and completely 'manufactured'.

So? I think it's 'amusing' you think Will (cuckold) Smith had anything whatsoever to do with this, other than having to pretend it was his and him.

I've been unfortunate enough to hear a few 'stars' sing 'live' and ... not one could hold a tune in a bucket. Everything they sing has been so sampled, manipulated and mixed as to make it almost irrelevant whether they were there or not.

So? You actually like the songwriter and lyricists 'song', and the engineers production (whilst looking at Will Smith prancing and pretending to be something he isn't ... so just like his 'acting' too).

Get yourself on Spotify, there are millions of them.

Granted, and I should have probably qualified that with "major record labels/establishment charts/MSM presented". Just like Indie authors and the major publishing houses, or ... MSM "news" for that matter, there 'are' alternatives but mostly you have to 'be in the know' to access them, and (amazingly even now) most aren't.

Stick with me, I'll find one you like before the year's out!

"...but another is 'Brenda's Got A Baby' by 2PAC, the tragic story of an abused girl who has a baby by her abuser and who then sinks into the gutter and oblivion."

More of this sort of message would be better for the listeners, I feel...

"I like the one about big butts."

Ah! Yes!

"I've been unfortunate enough to hear a few 'stars' sing 'live' and ... not one could hold a tune in a bucket. "

But enough about Pierce Brosnan and Damian Lewis... 😂
