The Lincoln Christmas market, a four-day celebration which sees over 300,000 people attend per year, was prevented from opening over the weekend after the local Labour Party-run council prohibited the festivities from taking place.
The leftist politicians justified their decision by claiming that the popularity of the market presented a “risk to public safety” due to alleged overcrowding.But at least the mayor Mr Bean (Ed: Seriously...?) didn't miss out:
"Lincoln Mayor Biff Bean spent the weekend in the city’s sister city of Neustadt in Germany and reportedly attended a Christmas market there."
Typical local council; pleasure for me, none for thee...

The people of Lincoln voted for these idiots (or couldn't be arsed to vote), so got what they deserve. If they actually vote for someone better next time, then I'll believe they have learnt their lesson. Until then, you reap what you sow.
No loss as far as I'm concerned.
I visited Lincoln Christmas Market maybe 25 years ago (it was held in the castle then) with my family and we all swore we would never return such was the unpleasant overcrowding. You could not see what overpriced tat the stalls were selling to decide whether it was worth fighting over to them, and we essentially got swept along from entrance to exit by the crowd, holding onto our children; let go and never see them again.
Beats me why people attend these events. Bah! Humbug!
Out of interest, the news report linked to seems to imply that the cancellation was a last minute decision. In practice it seems to have come about not long after last year's event.

I did the Bury St Edmunds market with some work friends the year before lockdown, and yes, the crowds didn't make it a nice experience at times...
