One of Britain’s biggest exam boards has been forced to change their A-level music syllabus after…Oh dear, not another hilarity-causing paper..?
… a teenager won her campaign to ensure female composers were studied on the course.Just because they were female. Wow. Think about this for a moment.
The Girls’ Day School Trust, the UK’s leading network of independent girls’ schools, joined leading academics and composers in backing Ms McCabe’s campaign.
At a meeting this week the 17-year-old received a personal apology from Mark Anderson, Managing Director of Edexcel’s parent company Pearson, and an assurance that the course will change. She had written to him demanding change following her involvement in a ‘Fearless Futures’ programme exploring gender inequality, which she said enabled her to recognise “normalised sexism” .Ah. I can see where we are going with this. A sausage factory course churning out identikit angry birds. What could go wrong?
Ms McCabe is not resting on her laurels and has already written to Nicky Morgan, the Education Secretary, as she wants to “role (sic) this process out to other exam boards”.
The teenager said: “It’s not just Edexcel [where this problem exists], other exam boards are at fault too. Edexcel is the leader in A level music but there are other people studying music with different exam boards so they should have the opportunity to learn about women composers too.”Let’s hope any prospective employer Googles Ms McCabe’s name before offering her a job.
You wouldn’t want your company’s name to be dragged through the mud by employing a shrill harpy who has public spats with ‘misogynists’, would you?

Are we still allowed to opine that positive discrimination is still discrimination? She won't be stuck for a job; the Grauniad will have her valuable insights in a blink. Meanwhile some idiot at an exam board bends over and takes one for political correctness.
I imaging the lyrics will be something along the lines of...
Waaaaah! Waaaaah! Waaaaah!

My cousins three daughters all have either engineering or science degrees, the eldest is a chartered engineer, I'll gloss over the middle one working in HR and the youngest is a nuclear scientist. That is what you call feminism and not some daft bint going on about equality but actually going out and achieving it.
Don't think any of them would even know where to start in a discussion on gender politics. Now cars and motorbikes is a subject they are more at home with.
Reminds me of RAF Greenham Common, back in the day! Barely out of basic training only to be confronted with hundreds of large, aggressive, unwashed lesbians singing some kind of folk song about Nicaraguan women leaving the fields to fight the fascists. "Oh we are the women leaving the fields to fight the fascists! Oh it is indeed a happy day! Oh we are are the women leaving the field to fight the fascists! Oh... err... and we're also Nicaraguan by the way!"
My god, we're breeding retards.
John M, to get an idea of what is going on just watch the opening of 'Idiocracy'. I think it might be on youtube.
I can't think of any female composers worth studying other than Delia Derbyshire, so I'm guessing this muppet is doing a part time course.

Hildegard von Bingen?
...and not a lot since.
"She won't be stuck for a job; the Grauniad will have her valuable insights in a blink."
Sadly true!
"That is what you call feminism and not some daft bint going on about equality but actually going out and achieving it. "
Spot on!
"My god, we're breeding retards."
And it's a growth industry!
"Hildegard von Bingen?
...and not a lot since."
If they aren't memorable without a lot of research, how influential can they be?
