Actually this makes a lot of sense: Groceries are good, because that's all tomatoes and lentils and stuff. Poor people can't afford it, so people who don't mind working for a living, need to step up Obesity is caused by takeaways, which are bad. Takeaway food costs a pittance, so poor people eat it all the time. Poor people are therefore getting fat, so we need to stop everyone eating takeaways
Sense in Guardian land, anyway. Me and Mrs Bucko had a takeaway curry at the weekend and it cost about a quarter of our monthly grocery budget
The UK government is focussing on food prices. Thanks to farmers and transport diesel price increases, sanctions on cheap Russian fertiliser, discouragement of red meat production and sales, etc. The government is entirely focussed on making us pay the environmentally appropriate price for what keeps us alive. Bugs. Martha Gill. Us "Boomers" bequeathed you a thriving, viable, well educated country. After that ....... Come on now. Be serious. Are you going to risk describing anybody as being (whisper it) fat? How bloody dare you.
Supermarkets are on a winner these days! ' They can easily cheat customers by labelling - say, 'Kg', 'LB', 'each' for just buying spuds, so it's impossible for a normal person to get to the true value of what they're buying! So their prices stay high, and even then a premium is added by shortening the sell-by date, so they can then say how generous they are by 'donating' to food banks when the magic date is reached!
And who pays? Yup, I knew you'd be correct there - we're now funding freebies for all!

"Obesity is caused by takeaways, which are bad. Takeaway food costs a pittance..."
Not in my neck of the woods! It's always dearer than cooking yourself. As you point out.
