A double killer who has been in jail for a quarter of a century has claimed he is standing trial over new charges of sexual offences as a tactic to stop him from being freed on parole.
At last, the justice system is doing its job, then. Although it would be preferable if parole wasn’t on the cards at all.
The former Royal Navy petty officer Allan Grimson was jailed in 2001 for sexually assaulting and battering to death two young men in the late 1990s. At the time, he also spoke to police about sexual contact with four other young males but was told no further action would be taken over them.
But that was then, and this is now.
Six years ago, the Parole Board recommended Grimson be moved to an open prison as a first step towards being freed on licence. But his barrister, John Femi-Ola KC, said in court on Thursday that Grimson’s chance of parole had been deliberately “stymied” when police began reinvestigating his contacts with the four men and the Crown Prosecution Service gave the go-ahead for him to be charged.
His hired DEI mouthpiece can whine all he wants, it’s not sport and no 'fair play' is to be expected.

Just a thought: when I was much younger - certainly in the 50s and 60s - being a QC (now KC) was a very big deal indeed for a barrister. Now it seems that any nobody who happens to pass the bar exams (which I'm fairly certain are less rigorous than they were) is given this sign of lawyerly excellence.
The rot started (in the 60s?) when MPs who happened to be barristers were awarded QC status by virtue (solely) of being MPs. OTOH then Parliament sat in the afternoons and evenings so that MPs who actually earned a living could do so in the mornings.
What happened to statute of limitations? He is hardly likely to get a fair trial now especially if they had the data then but held on to it.
Sounds like they are targeting this guy. Wonder why?
