An 18-year-old man who died in a tragic motorbike crash in Brentwood has been named and pictured for the first time.
A GoFundMe has now been arranged for the victim's family, naming him as Jay Barrow.

A statement accompanying the fundraiser says that the lives of Jay's family "changed forever" in the blink of an eye.
I'm guessing it's only by the grace of god that some other, totally innocent poor sod's life wasn't changed.. and I used to think chavshrines were the worst aspect of these stories, but in 2026, there’s an even worst aspect.
It is understood that donations raised by the page will go towards easing any financial burden on the family to allow them to grieve.
Despite ruling it a 'single vehicle collision' police are keen to trace the driver of a small blue convertible seen driving in the area at the time. I wonder why, when they could just close this with ‘young man, powerful machine, shit happens’?

I think your prejudice is showing. (Mine is there but not showing yet.) Initially I read the linked story and agreed with you, why are the police trying to find the driver of the small blue convertible? But then I remembered one of my motorcycle accidents which was mostly* caused by a driver pulling out of a junction in front of me. I didn't hit his van but in avoiding the collision I lost control and slid along the ground for a considerable distance.
So maybe, just maybe, the police suspect that the car driver had some involvement in the accident.
* I say "mostly" because losing control was due to my lack of skill.
There is nothing in the story about what kind of bike it was. If he was eighteen it was likely to be a restricted 125. This isn't really what would be described as a powerful machine.

I recall sitting at home a few years ago when this flood of emergency vehicles went screaming past my house, all blues and twos. Turned out there had been this terrible crash up the road, some young turk had been doing 60 in a 30 zone, lost control of his car and excused himself from the gene pool. So far, so what. Unfortunately, he also put a completely innocent bystander into intensive care in the process. Of course, it didn't stop his tribe from unfurling a massive, custom-made banner on the public railings where his ego came up short, declaring this fuckwit as the lost light of Little Hulton, and I'm pretty sure they didn't get permission from the local council before defacing public owned infrastructure for the next several years. Fly the Union Flag from a lamppost and the proverbial "they" will stop at nothing to pull it down, but clans of chavs get free reign.

After reading the article l'm inclined to agree with Frank's comment here.
There is no suggestion the victim was riding illegally, therefore licence requirements and high cost of insurance would almost certainly mean he was riding a moped or 125 - certainly not the high powered machine you assume. Also, bikes are far more vulnerable and sensitive to road conditions than other vehicles so yes, the police are correct to investigate whether a car might have been involved in the accident.
Please remember, the biggest cause of death and serious injury to motorcyclists is the actions of car drivers and this has been the case for a very long time.
