Maybe You Shouldn't Bang On Endlessly About The 'Obesity Crisis' Then?

Weight-loss injections are being aggressively marketed to British consumers through often illegal promotions, in a practice experts have described as a “wild west” industry of drug selling. The booming market for jabs such as Wegovy and Mounjaro has triggered a price battle among online pharmacies, with even high-street chains cashing in on the soaring demand.

Well, why the surprise, when the media is full of stories like this and you can't walk into any dr's surgery or A&E without screaming posters about obesity being a 'killer'?  

...a Guardian review of reports by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has revealed many online pharmacies are flouting the rules in an attempt to attract customers looking for weight-loss treatments. The regulator has regularly written to online pharmacies who advertise cut-price and multibuy deals on jabs to censure them for their promotions, reminding the seller that the suitability of weight-loss injections “should be a professional prescribing decision based on a consultation”.

We live in a 'quick fix' society, so of course people worried about the constant pressure from the NHS aren't going to eat healthily and exercise, because that all takes too long. A jab is the ideal solution for them. 

The MHRA’s official guidance states that a failure to comply with any requirement imposed by a notice served under the regulations is a criminal offence.

“The penalty is a fine and/or imprisonment for up to two years,” it states.

And how many have been issued? Zero. So it might as well not exist. Like any legislation that isn't enforced.

...why should the UK government help you when you no longer want to lie in it?

Jennifer's uncle, Donald Gillies, said the government should have done more to help the family and others trapped in Sudan to get to safety, as people have been told they must make their own way to the airbase.

'Without a shadow of a doubt the government should have done more, it was, in my opinion, a dereliction of duty,' he said.

'The way the diplomats fled the country. The military went in to their houses to take them and their children out but the normal civilians are seen as of lesser importance.'

He labelled the government's communication to British citizens 'chaos' and said that people should have been warned about potential conflict in the country, as US citizens had prior to the fighting breaking out.

If she's lived there for that long, the warning signs that the country was headed downhill were presumably ignored. Why is that the UK government's fault, or responsibility?

Andrew Davidson, prosecuting, said Darling had told a “pack of lies and falsehoods” to police - over a five year period up to March 2018 - about her ex-partner including that he raped her, stalked her, had tried to kill her, had a gun, and lied to his employer's HR that he had slept with the employer’s wife.

While Mr Davison was prosecuting there was a sudden commotion in the dock as Darling appeared to pass out, and court staff helped her while she lay flat on the floor.

Nice try, love. 

During an afternoon hearing Miss Nixon said Darling was a diabetic and suffered from mental health issues, adding “it is quite clear her physical condition will make a custodial sentence difficult".

Tough. Those are called 'consequences'. 

Judge Burbridge said what Darling did over a long period had been "extremely serious" and wasted police resources in Bedfordshire and Kidderminster investigating the false complaints.

He jailed Darling for 20 months, and granted a restraining order for her partner.

Nice to see a judge get tough for once, though it's a pitiful sentence compared to what the man would have got, and it's a shame to see 'wasting police resources' as the key issue...

But still, baby steps!

Travellers have told the BBC the coronavirus pandemic has left them struggling for weeks without access to water, electricity or sanitation.

Gosh, even my tiny violin's too big for this!

Josie, also not her real name, is living roadside with her family, including 18 young children, in caravans in London. She said they have had no access to electricity, running water or toilets for more than six weeks.

They had been relying on public amenities and local facilities such as leisure centres, but these have all temporarily closed.

So you live a parastical lifestyle which has now bitten you because the host isn't available? Are we supposed to care?

Well, if we don't, there's always those who make a career out of it:

Janette McCormick, the deputy chief constable at the National Police Chiefs' Council, said a large number of travellers have health issues and authorities should respond "proportionately".

In a letter sent to all police Chief Officers, seen by BBC News, she has encouraged forces to stop evictions in favour of "negotiated stopping".

This involves councils making agreements with travellers to temporarily settle on unauthorised sites in return for better access to healthcare and public services.

So, what does that 'agreement' give us taxpayers? It looks a lot like 'nothing', doesn't it?
