"Politicians are like diapers…"

"…they need to be changed often and for the same reason."
— Mark Twain
Town halls have spent £3million in the past five years trying to persuade parents to use washable nappies.
Well, why not? It just grows on the money tree, doesn’t it?
Whitehall stopped putting money into propaganda for washable nappies in 2007 after research showed that while they reduce landfill they make an impact on the environment in other ways, such as the water and energy used in laundering them.

But councils have continued to sink funds into nappy campaigns despite overwhelming evidence that they are pointless.
We all know how hard it is to get monolithic bureaucracies to turn around, so a few months delay shouldn’t be surpri…

Oh:
Among the councils subsidising nappies, Southend in Essex spent more than £46,000 giving mothers free nappies or laundry help in a campaign which was closed in March.
Well, at least they’ve stopped now, right?

Oh:
Pembrokeshire has spent nearly £120,000 since 2006, and is highlighting Real Nappy Week – which begins today – to its residents.
It’s not just the nappies that pong a bit, is it?

As a Pembrokeshire ratepayer, I am ... well, weary of it all, to be honest. I just want it to stop. Please.

There's a reason that I have a refrigerator in my kitchen as opposed to a slab of marble in the pantry. It's the same reason I have a surround sound home entertainment system as opposed to a wireless. It is also the same reason that my children wore disposable nappies instead of terry-toweling.

They're much, much better.

Maybe it's time for some research into finding ways of stopping babies from peeing & crapping. Then there would be no need for nappies, disposable or otherwise...

CAUTION- Sarcasm ahead. If you have no sense (of humour) - look away now.

May I paraphrase Microdave's comment?

Maybe it's time for some research into finding ways of stopping babies .... Then there would be no need for nappies, disposable or otherwise...

I have the feeling things will get a lot worse before they get better...

Spot on!

"Maybe it's time for some research into finding ways of stopping babies..."

We've already got a fertility slump in part of the population...

Just had a total facepalm moment.

I thought I would search to see what my local region thought about this, only to find.

A local not for profit organisation has been contracted to deliver a national awareness campaign to promote the use and benefits of washable nappies. ReZolve Kernow who run a number of waste projects in Cornwall including the award winning Cornish Real Nappy Project, have been selected to carry the national campaign forward.

OK it was 2007, but even so.

Now even the password is taking the piss:
