Nevertheless, back to The Marches. The tragic disappearance of Alethea has consumed the area. Hundreds are searching voluntarily each day and receiving plaudits and accolades from The Police Officers on board. Indeed one DC has said to me quite forcibly how astounded she is at how the local, proper "community" is responding. Here the word community is not a euphemism for some poverty stricken, slum wasteland, blighting our cities and Nation.Fingers crossed for Alethea...

Julia, I am truly and humbly grateful for your kind words. Blogging can be demoralising at times. I gain my "mojo" and inspiration from those who doggedly fight for that which is dear. In that context it is often our more fragrant sisters who lead the way. Not least in true communities. I am proud to be part of it all.
Couldn't agree more re the use and abuse of the term "community."
I'm reminded of a scene in Rab C. Nesbitt some years back, when Rab is being met by a police escort at Glasgow airport. His little crew are there to meet him and one drunkenly states: "That's what we've got in Govan eh boys? A great sense of community."
Another one pipes up: "Aye. Nae brain cells. Just a poxy sense of community."
Oh and obviously my best wishes re your missing friend.
