Charity worker Laura Nelson, 35, will take over lessons at a Soho primary school for a fortnight to teach children about gender stereotypes that might otherwise limit their ambitions.Oh, for… The school has time for this nonsense? Really?
Even if it is in Soho?
Dr Nelson used her blog — delilah-mj.blogspot — to persuade Hamleys to end “gender apartheid” by stopping classifying toys as being for girls or boys and putting them in different departments.Clearly, far, far more important that the kiddiewinks learn this, than that they learn to read and write…
Dr Nelson, who trained in neuroscience, hopes the pilot project at Soho Parish School in Great Windmill Street will be rolled across the country.
She will run history, geography and English lessons for nine- and 10-year-olds, and teach them how to campaign and to write to an MP.*speechless*
She started the project after she did a survey of children at the school.Oh, great! I’m sure they had lots of valuable advice…
She said: “There was a feeling that gender stereotypes were restricting them. One girl had short hair and liked playing football but felt she had to pretend to be a boy in order to play.
Another girl said she wanted to buy a T-shirt which wasn’t pink, but couldn’t.”“Those poor, deprived Soho kiddies!” said little Sanjit, when interviewed in Delhi on the rubbish tip that is his home.

Silly, pointless, waste of oxygen bitch !
Disappointed you did not publish the entire tweet exchange...
...and we still think you a frustrated "fluffy kitten".
Why is it that hand-wringing idiots like Laura Nelson always seem to be women or soft men?
Would you trust this stupid cow with any DIY?
And what is a charity worker? Can't she get a real job, making widgets, replacing alternators or fixing a boiler?
The only thing Laura Nelson is qualified to do in my opinion is get down on all fours and keep the lads at my local happy celebrating her womanhood.
Absolutely shocking. And the tradition of reserving to one gender, a spot for concealing the family jewels is also blatant sexism. Now that our eyes have been opened to apartheid, who amongst us would deny pre-pubescent schoolgirls the inalienable right to a flattering codpiece pocket? I merely express surprise that such a levelling accessory for the school uniform is not yet mandatory. Dr Nelson has something and good luck to her in exorcising it.
I would admire any MP who upon receivng a letter from one of these children as part of the class would reply, 'tell the pointless bitch to f**k off'. Also why do they use the phrase gender aparthied, one involved people being killed and this is just a product of a self serving egotist.
Have you noticed that the "team" has five members and all of them are women?
BTW her blog should be delilah-mj.blogspot.com
Finally, which charity does she work for? I can't find one listed
Decadent. The decay of the West writ large.
What charity does she work for, and is it a real one ?
You'd have though that, with a doctorate in neuroscience, she might be able to do something more useful, like trying to find a way of preventing or treating Alzheimer's.
It gets the children used to being indoctrinated and baffles their parents. An important act.
And when the time comes for
' a great leap forward' or somesuch they will be fertile soil.
Julia,
My money is on Sanjit in twenty years time having a reasonable standard of living, and Sanjit's children having a good standard of living. In the next twenty years the Soho children will probably be insulated from the changes in the UK's economy and status in the global markets, the Soho Children's children probably will not.
I very much doubt if this bloody woman will ever see or feel the change in the world, but the chances are that in a generation's time a child will be pleased to have a choice of tee-shirt as the UK is sidelined by the newer economies.
She is part of the problem and definitely not anything like a solution.

"...and we still think you a frustrated "fluffy kitten"."
Heh! Not so fluffy as you might think...
"And what is a charity worker? Can't she get a real job..."
For so many people, it seems to provide a good living. Maybe we should reconsider our definition of 'charity'?
"Also why do they use the phrase gender aparthied, one involved people being killed and this is just a product of a self serving egotist."
Spot on!
How much I care about a cause is in inverse proportion to the amount of hysteria and hyperbole its backers come out with...
"BTW her blog should be delilah-mj.blogspot.com"
Heh! Typical 'Standard'.
"Decadent. The decay of the West writ large."
Spot on! As Bunny says, people like her are part of the problem; we definitely shouldn't hope for a solution from them.
"You'd have though that, with a doctorate in neuroscience, she might be able to do something more useful, like trying to find a way of preventing or treating Alzheimer's."
Maybe there's not enough money in that?

She could start on her own.
