He suggested scooping up the object from the bottom of the Pacific with a magnet in order to examine the 'artificial' object and added that retrieving the object could be an opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of getting his hands on alien technology.
Please don't, it rarely ends well!

Until Elon decided to fund and buy the rights, I wasn't taking this 'Utter Nutter' story too seriously.
I assume he'll agree to refund the cost when it's discovered to be just another piece of metallic rock.
If it was alien technology, it would have landed near a site of intelligence and culture - such as Middlesbrough!
Alien technology can't be up to much if they missed the land and crashed into the sea... I'd leave it down there...
Read The Kraken Wakes (John Wyndham) - they chose to land in the sea.
On the other hand, perhaps not. Wyndham has teh aliens melting the Arctic ice so that sea level rises, which is barmy, because the Arctic ice is mainly afloat, so melting it wouldn't affect sea level at all. They'd have to melt the ANtarctic ice, and that's on land, which they reach with difficulty. Poor old JW - not much scientific knowledge, but a good yarn.

These days, he'd be a climate scientist with that!
