Rishi Sunak, who is battling with Liz Truss to win the backing of the Conservative grassroots in his attempt to replace Boris Johnson, has announced plans for an annual cap on the number of refugees the UK accepts.
*yawns* Why should we believe you? Why hasn't such a cap been implemented already?
Meanwhile, other countries have woken up:
Denmark is to start demolishing parts of migrant ghettos and moving people elsewhere in a bid to put an end to ‘parallel societies’ that have led to high crime and social dislocation. The areas targeted by the policy are specifically where there are demographic concentrations of people with non-western backgrounds who are more prone to criminality and joblessness.
Too little, too late? Maybe. But they aren't stopping there:
Citizens from outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland will also be denied municipal housing support as will those with a criminal record.
Maybe the Tories could look to Denmark rather than the US for ideas, for a change?

As the Tory race for PM progresses we are treated to the same old promise's we have heard so many times. Lower tax, cuts to immigration, tough on crime, triple lock etc etc. Do politicians actually think the people are that stupid they will believe these promise's will be kept this time when they have routinely been broken time after time? I for one no longer care who becomes PM because experience tells me you can't believe a word a modern politician says.
They have come from France, so why not send them back there on the grounds that they do not have the correct papers?
It would be a simple matter of packing them on a ferry - preferably a French-owned one, and then waving goodbye from Dover.
A sort of Dunkirk in reverse.
Rather than spend several millions of Pounds each day, putting these fake asylum seekers in 4 star hotels, giving them pizza, and £48 per person per day, why not have a fairly large ship, such as a decommissioned cruise liner, kept in the middle of the English channel, and put these poor souls on that? Of course, the inside would have to be altered slightly, and performances by Jane McDonald kept to a minimum, but at least, they would not have set foot on UK soil and, after a winter mid channel, would be screaming to be sent back home.

Imprisonment on the hulks was common in the 18th century Penseivat.
Just provided you don't try to dump them all over here in Oz, as you did in 1788.
"Do politicians actually think the people are that stupid..."
Yes. Because enough of them are indeed that stupid.
"They have come from France, so why not send them back there on the grounds that they do not have the correct papers?"
If only!

The old timers had some good ideas...
