In April 2008 the UK Border Agency was launched as a shadow agency of the Home Office. A year later, we reached full agency status. Agency status gives us and our people the freedom to operate and focus our resources within a clearly defined mandate from the Home Office. It provides us with:The reality:
* a sharper focus on delivery, better meeting the public's expectations in maintaining secure borders, finding and removing illegal immigrants and tackling those who facilitate them coming here
An illegal immigrant is on the run after smuggling himself into Britain underneath a coach full of Border Agency officers returning from France.*sigh*
Still, the coach driver will be in a bit of trouble, won't he? Just like all those lorry drivers who...

A political row has now erupted because no action will be taken against the coach driver hired by the Border Agency - unlike hundreds of other lorry drivers who have been prosecuted for unwittingly allowing an illegal immigrant into Britain.Is there a better indication anywhere else of the utter contempt in which the government and its agents hold the average working person than this?
