Which rather begs the question, just what sort of 'maverick' you have to be to not be tolerated at the BBC? Perhaps he was another Kevin Greening?
No, something far worse than that. He belonged to the Hell's Angels:
His downfall came after he was interviewed by unsuspecting colleagues on Radio 4 and Radio 5 Live as a Hell's Angel speaking up for the 'brotherhood' and criticising the police. Some extra-curricular activities being less acceptable than others, it seems...
His distinctive voice was recognised by colleagues which led to an inquiry into his extra-curricular activities.

Re Kevin Greening:
No wonder the fake company on his shows was called Blowchap...
Any one know what that weird music was that used to play behind his farmers character?
I understand he was sacked because of a "conflict of interest" - which is odd seeing how James Naughtie was heard referring to the Labour Party as "we" and yet it was deemed that there was no conflict of interest in having one of the Beebs main political commentators exressing his partisan interest for a particular party.
James Naughtie was heard referring to the Labour Party as "we"
No conflict at all. The BBC is the militant wing of Labour PR.
"Hmmm...."
Well, indeed. Some are more equal than others...

TBH, I'd never even heard of the guy before that news report!

Indeed. And so he was a biker? So what? So he criticised the police? So what?

This election is shaping up to be delicious fun, isn't it?
