Aspiring crime fighters helped bus users keep safe on their way home in the evening.
If that language conjures up images of sub-par ‘Batmanesque’ figures helping Granny to step down safely from the No.27, well, think again…
Barking and Dagenham Police cadets spent four hours handing out safety tips and purse chains at Sainsbury in the High Road, Chadwell Heath, on October 1.
And those ‘safety tips’?
The cadets urged shoppers to plan their journey in advance, have their travelcard ready, stay on the lower deck of a bus near the driver when they feel nervous, use passenger alarms if they feel threatened and beware of unlicensed minicab drivers.
Whew! Don’t have nightmares!
Safer Neighbourhood Team Sgt Ian Lee said: “Our cadets worked hard to get shoppers and bus travellers thinking about what makes them vulnerable.”
Yes, clearly you did..!

If they cannot work that out for themselves then they deserve anything they get. Having done away with self-reliance and personal responsibility it appears the state now has to do our thinking and decision making for us. Orwell's 1984 got the prophecy right just the date slightly wrong.
'our cadets'
I thought the police were supposed to protect and serve the public whilst swearing an allegiance to Madge!
Looking on the positive side, I'd prefer youngsters to be involved with a youth organisation (any youth organisation) than hanging about the streets, looking for trouble ..
And as I understand it, these "Cadets" are nothing like the old style Police Cadets of years ago ..
I must join Jaded in a rapturous applause for such initiatives.
It demeans us all to hide teenage retards behind an Institution's radiators for the entire day. A burden is released from our shoulders when we see these young folk engaged in training for a job where a result doesn't matter.
And he's back.
Been at Dale Farm Melvin? Helping the oppressed minority fighting the police dogs with killer bees in their mouths?
Jaded
Good evening Jaded.
Whilst police remain mortally terrified of Travellers, the latter require no assistance, had I any remote inclination to make the offer.
It is the wheelchair user whom you so bravely tasered and handcuffed....and the old drunk you managed to trip from behind, who merit defence from the very worst in uniform.
What about the illegal immigrant child-rapist you were defending previously?Does he still need your help.
I personally don't recall tazering anyone or pushing a drunk over.Oh I realise now you are talking about the police per se and not treating me as an individual.
Jaded
PS I don't think the police are terrified of travellers. I think they are probably terrified of armchair generals typing away on keyboards influencing public opinion against them for every little perceived wrong.
'Gadgetistas' share a notion of remaining unpunished for their crude, cowardly and taunting posts. This obvious naivety brought UK police into further disrepute.
Writing which recently appeared 'on the wall' is more gratifying to some by virtue of it meaning nothing to you.
It's not reasonable to make Jaded answerable for what Gadgetistas write over at Inspector Röhm's.
Incidentally, I am going to lurk around here so that I can be the first to post "First" on one of Julia's blogs.
So there.
" Having done away with self-reliance and personal responsibility it appears the state now has to do our thinking and decision making for us."
Spot on!
"Looking on the positive side, I'd prefer youngsters to be involved with a youth organisation..."
Oh, me too. But I'm sure there's something a little more useful they could have done...
"It is the wheelchair user whom you so bravely tasered and handcuffed..."
Thompson was indeed a terrible mistake, for whom there can be no excuse. But MacIntyre is a gobbly little activist mouthpiece who deserves everything he gets; certainly he didn't get tasered, though the temptation must have been enormous.
"Incidentally, I am going to lurk around here so that I can be the first to post "First" on one of Julia's blogs."
:D
Thanks Mick.
I am beginning to really like you.Have you thought about joining us?
Jaded
At 0827 today I was at work not pushing drunks over or tazering wheelchair users so that wasn't me.
Thanks Mick anyway. You have probably realised that so called liberals like MTG are happy to tolerate any other views only if you agree with them.
The real Jaded.
