Well, I'll Tell You What I Don't Expect...

Another neighbour, 33, said: 'It is crazy. She is sweet. It was some kind of drive by gone wrong. Someone would not shoot Sue.
'This isn't right. She is 50, when you hear about this kind of thing you would think it would happen to a 17-year-old or something.
'Violence around here is worrying but it is the government's fault...

Wait, what? Did Liz Truss and Jacob Rees Mogg perform a drive by shooting in Brockley, or something?

...[as] there is no youth centre.'

*blinks*

'When I was growing up there was a youth centre and I would go. Now none of that exists, what do you expect people to do?'

Err...

In today's world everything is someone else's fault isn't it. I do think that there might be just a shred of truth in it being the governments fault even though it pains me to say so. It was the government that reduced police presence in our area to zero and I hear that such police as there may be are only interested in woke crime and gathering easy money. Certainly when I tried to report a fraud recently I found it impossible to do so, that will bring reported crime down with no police effort at all.

But in today's world everything is someone else's fault and you can often get free legal aid to prove that. It might of course help if the government had not reduced police presence in many areas to zero so maybe there is just a shred of truth in this one.

Back in 2011, when shops in Salford were looted and vandalised, one of the perpetrators charged with criminal damage was a 12-year-old boy. His mother - who had 10 other children, despite being single and living on benefits - spoke to reporters after the trial and was asked who was to blame for the rioting. Her answer?

“The government. There’s f*** all to do round here”.

The authors of ‘Freakonomics’ describe how, in the USA, Roe vs Wade had the unexpected effect of reducing urban crime figures in subsequent decades by lowering the birth rates in certain demographics; I wonder whether future UK economists will examine the at benefits and housing policies around the turn of the century and find the opposite effect.

It would appear so. Of course, no-one wants to look inward, but this knee-jerk reaction is becoming almost pathological...

"Certainly when I tried to report a fraud recently I found it impossible to do so..."

Could you try reporting it as some sort of race-based or lifestyle-based insult instead? They seem hot on those...

"...and you can often get free legal aid to prove that."

While it's hard to come by in other areas. Like suing the authorities. I see a pattern emerging.

So the states now rushing to outlaw abortion are sowing dragon's teeth? The harvest in 10-12 years time will be interesting...
