He's Just Proving It Was The Right Sentence All Along...

The trial of an alleged escapee who spent hours on the roof of a high-security prison in his underpants is set to be the first time the stress caused by indeterminate sentences can be used as a legal defence.

Yes, of course, it's the 'Guardian' taking out an onion for a criminal again.

The 38-year-old has been in jail for 13 years, much of that in isolation, after receiving an IPP sentence for robbing a takeaway at gunpoint in 2011. He says he does not remember the crime because he was drunk and high on drugs.

Just the sort of criminal who should be locked up until he’s safe to live in society, in other words. So who is complaining?

The case raises once again the issue of IPPs, which 2,544 prisoners were still serving in March despite the sentences being abolished in 2012. The legislation that ended what campaigners describe as a cruel system was not retrospective.
A spokesperson for Reform and Rebuild, a prison advocacy group which is set to give evidence in the trial, said it was “well overdue” for courts to take into account the stress caused by IPPs.“Nobody’s been resentenced yet, but we are looking at human rights. That’s another battle but we will get it. We’ll definitely get it because it’s cruel and inhumane. I think if we don’t keep fighting and jumping up and down, then it’ll just be forgotten.”

Progressive do-gooders, of course!

Campaigners have made some progress over the years, for example in shortening the licences of those released from IPPs from 10 years to three years. Nichol said this “meant some people could go on holiday with their families and have a life again, because 10 years is a long time after you’ve suffered”.

Shsme their victims often can't do the same, eh? Their suffering rarely ends, thanks to do-gooders like you.

Why The Kid Glove Treatment?

Yesterday, as the horrific events unfolded in Hainault, I spent a fair amount of time on social media, correcting idiots who demanded the police should shoot the attacker dead 'like they would if it was a dog on the rampage' and not worry about taking him alive.

Not how justice is done here, I informed them, do we really want the police to act like a Third World Police Force or something out of a dystopian movie? Let justice be done properly, I said.

Boy, do I feel like an idiot now!
He has since been arrested on suspicion of murder, although police are yet to question the suspect as he remains in hospital being treated for injuries sustained in the van crash.

Yes, you read that right. A man who rampaged around the streets attacking and murdering random people, jumping over fences and climbing on top of garages for 20 minutes after crashing the van, is apparently too frail to be questioned.

'He was running around, still after the police officers came, with the sword in his hand.'

You couldn't make it up, could you?

It's Because That's Often Exactly What They Are...

“People are being treated like weapons,” said Van Leeuwen (medical emergency manager with Médecins Sans Frontières), who recently returned from a week-long assessment with local groups including the Ocalenie Foundation and Grupa Granica.
“It’s hard to believe this kind of crisis is unfolding in the EU.”

No, it really isn't. In fact, it was inevitable, when you push Open Borders on an unwilling population.

Sooner or later, they realise that the people you are inflicting on them, and who are not welcome, are indeed weapons to be resisted.

At least eight people have died as thousands of migrants, mostly from Iraq, Iran and Syria, have tried to cross from Belarus in recent weeks but found themselves trapped in a densely wooded border zone with no food or shelter from subzero temperatures. All non-residents including journalists, aid workers and foreign observers are barred under a state of emergency declared by Warsaw from entering a 3km-deep (1.9-mile) strip along the border. This week Poland sent 2,500 more troops to the area, bringing to 10,000 the number of soldiers helping border guards prevent attempted crossings, after several incidents in which groups of 60 or 70 people tried to tear down a razor-wire border fence.

Who are these people, anyway?

...many of the migrants also have significant mental health issues after spending sometimes several weeks being shunted back and forth across the border. “These people need shelter, food, water and medical assistance,” she said. “Their lives need protecting, and they need to be treated according to EU and international law. They are not weapons, they are human beings.”

They are an invasion force.

They don't come with guns and tanks, but with resource-draining ailments and demands that countries forced to be unwilling hosts should change their own culture to better accommodate them.

And they are not 'refugees' in any meaningful sense of the word. They will happily tell you so, should you ask:

In September Ahmad Dandashi, who fled Syria for Lebanon in 2012 and then spent more than seven years working for the Norwegian Refugee Council helping fellow migrants, paid $1,200 for a return flight from Beirut to Minsk, via Dubai.
“The country was collapsing,” said Dandashi, 29. “The economy was nosediving. There were constant power cuts. It would get worse before it got better. I’d applied for so many jobs elsewhere, for scholarships … But nothing came. I had to leave.”
A friend had made it to Germany via Belarus and Poland in July, he said, and he and a small group of friends decided to try for themselves.

He's not fleeing war or persecution - he's fleeing a country he and his fellow co-religionists have turned into a cesspit. He's fleeing it because do-gooders like Van Leeuwen have made it easier to do so:

Dandashi made it to a processing camp in Eisenhüttenstadt, just across the German border, and filed his application for international protection.

But the 'international protection' he demands comes from the western nations. Not, you'll note, the other Muslim countries.

What Happened To Being Tough On Knife Crime?

Carl Clarke attempted to enter Brooklyn Mixer in Seel Street with a blade in his jacket, but was searched by door staff.
When the weapon was spotted, he left and ditched it in a car park, then returned and was let in, only to be arrested by police.
The 26-year-old denied possessing a bladed article and was due to stand trial last December, but instead went on the run.

As you do...

At his trial, Clarke was set to deny possessing a bladed article on the grounds his knife was shorter than the minimum required for the offence.
This month prosecutors accepted his guilty plea to the alternative charge of possessing an offensive weapon, which covers shorter knives, and breach of bail.

Looking at his record - yes, of course he has a record! - it's amazing he was granted bail:

Clarke, of Beechtree Road, Wavertree, has four convictions for three offences, including affray and breach of bail in 2015, when he was jailed for 13 months.

*sighs*

Judge Stuart Driver, QC, said: "The aggravating features are the circumstances in which you had the knife, attempting to get into a club in the early hours of the morning in Liverpool city centre, knowing that this would be premises with lots of young people in, many of whom would have been drinking and that's clearly a volatile situation.
"The second aggravating feature is your record, not a long record, but in the past you have served imprisonment for violence.
"In mitigation there has been a substantial delay, though you contributed to that yourself by being at large."

So...how is that 'mitigation', you bewigged idiot!?

Judge Driver handed Clarke eight months in prison, suspended for 12 months, a 10-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, Thinking Skills Programme and 70 hours of unpaid work.
He warned: "It's highly likely if I see you again, you will go into custody for eight months."

It's highly likely you'll see him again. Hopefully, it'll be in a dark alley one night.

Trolling Level: Expert!

Well done, Southend Council!

On the day designated to draw attention to the needs of homeless people and ways those in need of help can be supported locally Southend Council left notes on belongings giving a deadline for them to be moved or they would be thrown out.
Because of another of the plethora of 'named days' that plague us now, all normal action should stop?

Who could possibly...

Oh. Right.
Zoey Smith, 35, co-founder of One Love Soup Kitchen in Southend said: “I think what the council is doing is disgusting and makes me so angry.”
*rolls eyes*
“These people need help and support.
“Two hours is not long enough for people to move their items and is completely inappropriate.”
So offer them space to put their stuff in your soup kitchen, Zoe.
“I know last year we had reports the council was removing tents and we made a fuss and the council started treating homeless people better.
“Our volunteers are also very angry about what has happened.”
Not as angry as shoppers who now have to sidestep even more of these drunk & drug-addicted parasites that seem to infest every square mile of Southend, thanks to do-gooders like you and HARP...
A spokesman for Southend Council said: “It is probably most important to stress that we work very hard to prevent people from becoming homeless in the first instance, and once homeless do all we can to provide accommodation.
“Unattended items being left in public areas has been an issue for the borough for some time and needed addressing, for a number of reasons, including safety and security.
“We keep smaller items, including bags and personal belongings for 72 hours, giving the owners time to collect them. We unfortunately cannot store larger items.”
Over to you then, Zoe, and your army of volunteers. Let's see you doing something useful, for once.

I'm Confused, Don't Police Have Human Rights Too?

Like, the human right to be protected at work?
A decision to extend a trial use of spit hoods to all police custody centres across London has been labelled “primitive” and “extreme” by a human rights charity.
And 'It's about bloody time' by everyone else.
The force said it consulted with “partner organisations, community representatives, independent groups and magistrates” before taking the decision.
But human rights charity Liberty accused the police of trying to “quietly” implement the hood “with no public debate and no published evaluation”.
The public don't care, frankly. They don't like getting spat at, so they totally understand the need for the police to protect themselves.
The mesh hoods are put over the heads of detainees who are considered at risk of spitting at officers and possible passing on contagious infections.
See..? It's that 'elf & safety, Liberty, innit? What are you gonna do?
Martha Spurrier, Director of Liberty, said: “The police do an important job, which is why they are able to use necessary and proportionate force.
“Spit hoods are neither – they are primitive, cruel and dangerous.
“There have been far too many cases of their use against children and disabled adults, causing huge fear, humiliation and even suffocation...”
Who, in the UK, has ever suffocated in one of these things?

Is This Really The Best You Can Do?

The progressives are unerringly picking excellent examples of the 'inhumane' State that insists on its immigration laws being followed:
Sophia told The Independent being away from her children was traumatic.
“As a mother, no words can describe how I feel being stuck in this prison as my kids need me more than ever," she said.
"Why are they punishing my family for something minor I did as a troubled kid? They are tearing families apart.”
Technically, aren't you the one punishing your family? After all, it was you that decided to embark on a life of crime in someone else's country...
Sophia’s indefinite leave to remain was revoked after she was entangled in a fraud case, which she says she knew nothing about and was tricked and manipulated into by her then partner.
She was initially sentenced to 21 months in prison because she already had a criminal record, having been convicted of several small shoplifting offences more than 10 years ago, when she was trying to support her three children as a single parent living below the poverty line.
Gosh, she sounds like a real asset to the country, doesn't she?
The Home Office has said Sophia can appeal to reverse their decision from outside the country under the recently expanded the "deport first appeal later" rule.
Now, I'm sure there are genuine cases of hardship - bureaucratic wheels do indeed tend to crush undeserving cases under them.

So why can't the open borders advocates ever find any that stand up to a moment's scrutiny?

Essex Police Finally Do Their Job, And What Happens..?

Police have come in for criticism after officers were filmed “manhandling” a homeless person, as part of a crackdown on rough sleepers.
Shot by a pedestrian on Tuesday afternoon in Southend High Street, the video shows the man sitting down and drawing, before officers drag him away to be relocated.
No, not an uninterested bystander - by someone with a vested interest in encouraging these parasites!
The eyewitness, a member of the Homeless Street Hub and Soup Kitchen in Southend, described the scene as “harrowing” and the police engagement “unwarranted”.
You know what's 'unwarranted'? Having to walk Southend High Street every morning, being accosted by people begging for spare change.
The video attracted scores of sympathetic comments on Facebook, with residents announcing plans to stage a sit down protest on Saturday morning in support of the man.
Barking mad, the lot of them!
