The whole point of the matter is that the Afghan adventure was simply a waste of time, money and lives.

After 9/11 (and what did happen on the 9th of November?), I held my breath waiting to see what Bush would do. In my view, he bottled it. Had I been him, I would have called an emergency meeting at the UN, asking for unanimous backing for what I was going to do in retaliation. If it had not been forthcoming, I would have kicked theUN out of New York, and ton down the building. WIth the backing, and intelligence that Bin Laden was holed up in the Afghan mountains then I'd have soaked the place in nuclear explosions. I would also have asked the Saudis to hand over the entire Bin Laden family and the families of the suicide bombers, for incarceration at Guantanamo Bay and eventual disappearance.

Had I been Obama, and discovered that Bin Laden was holed up in a Paki city, it would have got the same nuclear treatment.

On the other hand, if we were going to invade a war-torn Afghanistan we should have gone in with gifts, such as prefabricated houses, sanitation and the rest, not soldiers. We could usefully have conscripted the entire Left and Greens to do the work.

Biden is a stinking turd, but the manner of his quitting doesn't mean that it was wrong to pull out. But why the hell didn't we gun down the Taliban when they showed up, and booby-trapped everything that was left behind (or painted it with bacon fat).

No, fully agree. We shouldn't have been there in the first place.
