Pupils should not automatically be sent home if they are suspended from school in England and could instead remain on site, the government has said. Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said being sent home could mean children "retreating to social media". She said on-site suspensions should be used for pupils who had not been violent.
Starmer is getting pretty deseperate to avoid pupils reading that he's a wanker on Twitter and Snapchat I guess. Everyone already knows, Kwier...
And why is there such a desperate need to suspend pupils anyway?
The number and rate of suspensions had been increasing before Covid, but the rise has accelerated ever since.
Ah, Covid panic - the gift that really does go on giving.

Not sure schools have many other sanctions available to them, especially if dealing with disruptive pupils?
I wonder if Starmer will provide extra staff to watch over "suspended" pupils that are kept on site? And extra accommodation?

Over the years the "experts" have removed any sanctions teachers can use to control the scum, hence the exclusions.
John Tee and The Jannie have hit the nail on the head.
I’m old enough to remember The Belt - capitals because of the awe with which it was regarded - being administered on the stage in front of the whole school (and the subsequent erosion of the school bully’s hold over previous victims who had seen him howling in fear).
While I don’t agree with corporal punishment (times have moved on and, these days, there would be a real risk of physical retaliation by pupils - or parents - even if it were legally permitted), we need something to replace it and a way to remove disruptive elements from the classroom. My answer would be to recruit ex-services personnel who would be encouraged to form a ‘tough but fair’ disciplinary relationship with pupils including supervising exclusion units if necessary.
Forcing non academic students to stay in school for far longer than is sane has to be part of the problem. It really is a waste of everyone's time and I think that these kids know that.
