Nice Old Essex Name…

Police are appealing for information following an incident in Corringham where am elderly woman was dragged out of bed and forced to hand over her wedding ring.
Two men broke into an address in Thames Haven Road at around 4.30am on Wednesday, July 12. The woman was woken up by the men who dragged her out of bed and forced her to hand over her wedding ring. The suspects also stole a necklace and bank cards before threatening to harm the woman.
The victim’s bank card was later used at Lloyds bank in Corringham and a three-figure sum of cash was taken.
Charming. And readers could be forgiven for looking for the 'travellers' label on this story. But no!
A 25 year-old man has since been arrested and charged with a string of offences but one suspect remains outstanding.
Lewis Onwuchekwa, 25, of Newton Road Tilbury, has been charged with robbery, dangerous driving, possession of a noxious substance with intent to resist arrest, assaulting a police officer and escaping lawful custody.
Ah, how Essex is benefiting from that diversity that London keeps sending us...

Little Scamps!

The sort of 'children' the police wouldn't touch, I wonder?
Naeem Butt, 58, was driving along Longbridge Road, Dagenham when a youth on a bike jumped out in front of him. He says he braked to avoid an accident and then saw another child in his rear view mirror.
“Out of nowhere” other children circled him and started to throw eggs through the open window into his passenger seat. They also vandalised his car and broke his wing mirror.
“Because of the weather my windows were down,” he told the Post.
“After they threw eggs in my car they started punching me in the face about 15 to 18 times.”
A resident witnessed the incident and called the police.
If they turned up at all, there's no evidence of it.
“I have no idea why they did it, when they started punching me I didn’t know what to do,” he added.
“This is the second time it has happened to me in that area”.
WTF? Wouldn't you avoid that area?
A Met Police spokesman confirmed that an incident on Monday, July 3 at 9pm was reported to them.
Police say they have made no arrest and have exhausted all avenues of inquiry.
Doesn't sound like they tried all that hard, does it?

But We Are Told Not To Encourage Vermin...

...and if that goes for rats, pigeons & urban foxes, why does it not go for beggars too?
Southend could become the first place in Britain to install lockers for rough sleepers to store their belongings.
You have got to be kidding me!
The project, headed by Quiller Hawkins of Solidarity Lockers UK, has taken inspiration from a similar scheme in Lisbon.
ACA Portugal, which is behind the yellow metal cabinets, is now working in partnership with Mr Hawkins. He came up with the idea after speaking to a homeless person who had their guitar stolen. The lockers, which could soon be installed in Southend town centre, will allow people who are homeless to store their belongings safely - reducing the risk of them being robbed and allowing them to own more clothes than they can carry.
Southend is already far too attractive to beggars and homeless drug addicts, thanks to the proximity to London & the antics of group like Harp, which exist solely to ensure that shopkeepers have to shoo beggars away when they open up in the morning.
The lockers will also have an address, as they come equipped with a letter box - meaning that the person using it can register with the NHS and get allocated a National Insurance number.
Not necessarily their own, either!
Mr Hawkins is drawing up plans for the project alongside Mark Flewitt, Tory councillor for housing, planning and sustainability. Mr Flewitt said: “I am optimistic that any measure, soft or otherwise, if it starts giving people some dignity it will encourage people to try harder and, more importantly, the authorities to try harder.
“If we help one or two people then it could make a huge difference to their lives, as they will feel like they are being paid attention to.”
The only people that should be 'paying attention to them' is the police. Begging should be dealt with like any other crime, zero tolerance.
Mr Flewitt told the Echo he has not yet formally taken the idea to Southend Council as he and Mr Hawkins believe it is best to publicise the idea first and gauge reaction from the community.
Of course, the only 'community' that'll actually be listened to will be the tiny minority of SJWs and charities employing people to ensure these people are carefully farmed like sheep...

Post Title Of The Month

We have a tie this month. First up, Natalie Solent at 'Samizdata' on everyone's favorite goofball ecofreak:

Quote Of The Month

Tom Paine on 'mission creep' in the field of law-making:
"Reading my last copy of the IBA's journal I realised another reason why I was content to let go. The tone of the articles has changed. Lawyers are always in danger of going to the dark side because, good or bad, new laws tend to make them richer. Arguably the worse the laws the more work they generate. Only noble traditions passed on at an individual's age of peak naivety in Law School helped most of us understand that law is at its very best only a (sometimes) necessary evil and that every problem solved even by the best law introduces several new ones.
The capture of academia by Cultural Marxists / post modernism has killed that protection. Every article introducing a new law now seems to bemoan that it did not go further."

Dog Walkers Should Go Armed...

...and not necessarily to use on just the aggressive dog, either:
She added: "People do say once a dog gets a taste of blood it triggers something inside, so it scares me that this owner is still walking his dog in public.
Every dog has a mouth and it is quite a vicious weapon."
She continued: "I was screaming – the only thing the man did was put his hand on his forehead, not a word came out of his mouth.
Elizabeth said Chopper could not be saved and she took him to the vets to be put down.
Perhaps if the owners of these four-legged weapons felt physically at risk themselves, it might go some way to alleviating the problem...
She believed the dog that attacked Chopper should be put down.
"I don't think that man should be allowed to keep a pet," she said.
She also said she has passed on the name of the pet owner to the police after having tracked him down on Facebook.
Might as well whistle in the dark as expect the police to do anything, love.

I Wonder If Emily Wished She Hadn't Gone To Journalism School When She Got This One?

Boy, is this one going to be hard to excuse. But his brief is game!
Ed Fish, defending McTighe, of Bristol Road, Brighton, said that “one thing had simply led to another”.
He said the former carpenter had been suffering from an undiagnosed medical condition causing pins and needles and numbness in his limbs.
He added: “He went shopping with his wife in Asda.
“She went into the shop and he was in the car looking after the dog.
“While there his leg went numb.
“He’s tried to get the circulation back in his leg and it moved on to something else.”
As you do....
Mr Fish said that McTighe had struggled to work because of his health problems and now worked in music production.
He told the court his main income was from tax credits.
So he's a taxpayer-funded wanker...

The comments, as you might expect, are comedy gold!
