A man was being questioned today after gangs of youths attacked police officers following an anti-racist march, Scotland Yard said.
Gangs of youths, eh? At an anti-racist demo?
Must be the racists, right?
Cordons were set up to stop people going up Whitechapel Road, in east London, because officers feared random attacks on members of the public.Yup, definitely the racists. Which bunch?
Oh, typical, it wa…The scenes followed a rally, organised by Unite Against Fascism, that attracted several thousand people.
It was organised in response to another rally planned by the far-right English Defence League (EDL) which was called off earlier this week.
Hang on, ’called off’? As in, they didn’t show up? But the UAF did?
So, it was them that attacked the police and passers by?
A police spokesman said yesterday's UAF rally was "well organised and well stewarded" but a group of young men gathered outside the nearby East London Mosque in response to rumours the EDL were planning a protest.Ah. A light begins to dawn…
He said: "The group numbered up to 300, who were very volatile. Despite continued excellent attempts by stewards and representatives from the East London Mosque to control the crowds, even placing themselves in danger, there was the risk of serious disorder.
"Police officers were attacked by the crowd at points throughout the afternoon. One member of the public was attacked at random by members of the crowd as those gathered surged up and down the Whitechapel Road."
"In order to prevent injuries to the public and officers, and serious disorder, police withdrew from the immediate area and a series of filter cordons were put in place. The cordons were used to prevent access to parts of Whitechapel Road due to concerted efforts by the crowd to attack people at random."Note how these aggressors are very carefully not identified. And how the police response to serious disorder is to retreat.
And what about the UAF? They must be embarrassed by…
Yeah. As I figured:
A spokesman for Unite Against Fascism said around 5,000 took part in the march from Stepney to Whitechapel. Why not just say 'We're all right, Jack'..?
He said: "I heard there were a few nasty scuffles between local youths and police but certainly the demo was very positive and a really good vibe."

Allah be praised that no Asian thugs of Whitechapel Road were hurt in the making of this affray.
Police be damned for the continuance of random attacks on priests, nasty white people 'trespassing' in the area, Synagogues and van drivers carrying non halal meat.
Have lost the source now, but the way I read it, the person beaten up was a white UAF person hopelessly trying to explain the was wid da bruvvers, yeah - only they didn't believe him and accused him of being an EDL infiltrator, or else they just couldn't be bothered to sort out which TLA was in play.
That's wot I heard. Oh dear, how sad.
They were attacking people at random were they? What were they using, a twenty sided dice to decide the next victim?
I wonder if all these people "randomly" attacked might have been white or wearing beards/hats identifying them as members of another religion to that of these so peaceful attackers?
The Islamic Republic of Tower Hamlets. What a shithole!
This pernicious obfuscation of certain criminal elements has become routine.
It has been used for years by the BBC in its reports on the Israel/Arab conflict.
No matter how many savage attacks are instigated by Hamas and other terrorist rag-heads, the BBC will always contrive to make it sound like Israel's fault.
UAF?
I thought that stood for the United Arab Front?

Indeed, the police seem to have gone out of their way to ensure this. As I said over at QM's, the real outrage is that, if the rioters had been the EDL picking on random strangers, this would not be buried in the back pages but in screaming 22 point type on every news site, and Pickled Politics & Liberal Conspiracy would be all over it.

Heh! Sometimes, I wonder if there is a god after all... :)

Indeed. A bit of liberty with the truth there, I suspect...

Having worked there once (briefly) I'm inclined to agree. And that was years ago. God alone knows what it is like now.

It's another of those organisations where unless you get the full name, you have to wonder which it is. Like WWF...
