Man Who Only Has A Hammer Sees Nothing But Nails

Something is happening, and we see it on both sides of the Atlantic. On the surface, it is about flags, identity and political allegiance. But to me, as an American living in Britain, recent events reveal something deeper: both our societies are normalising hate and othering in ways that corrode not only our politics but our souls.
Nothing better than a foreigner come to tell us where we are all going wrong, eh? Good old 'Guardian'! But maybe I shouldn't be hasty, maybe he has something valuable to s...

Oh.
The something is aggressions and micro-aggressions: a coarsening of everyday encounters. I have snapshots. Recently, at a celebrated creative hub in London, I twice endured blatant bias. My guests and I – the only all-Black table in the room – were left in the dark, literally. As night fell, every other table was given a lamp except ours. When I raised it with management, I was interrupted, dismissed and told it was an oversight. A Black staff member was sent to smooth things over. An official later told me that while they had “a different view of what happened”, they accepted that this was “how [I] experienced it” and admitted it “fell short of [their] usual standards”. My Blackness was overlooked, diminished and dismissedwhile whiteness was appreciated, affirmed and celebrated, in a space that loudly markets itself as a home of “belonging”.

The thought that there could be other reasons for this failure to supply a lamp doesn't appear to have ever crossed his tiny mind; maybe the staff were working to a rota of tables and that one was last? Maybe all the other tables were polite and appreciative, and his was loud and racous and demanding, so naturally the staff left him to last?

These are not minor indignities. They are signs of a culture where suspicion and prejudice are no longer whispered but weaponised.

Of course they are, dearie....

Martin Luther King Jr warned: “Let no man pull you so low as to hate him.” Hatred, he knew, corrodes the hater as much as the hated. Love, by contrast, is the only force capable of transforming both. This is not abstract philosophy. It is lived truth.

That you can use MLK as an example, when he'd be utterly horrified at what modern day 'black culture' represents is enough evidence for anyone to immediately dismiss your chip-on-the-shoulder whinge.

Societies cannot thrive if they are built on grievance. Empathy must become a public practice woven into our schools, workplaces and laws.

The black movement itself is built on grievance.

Here in Britain, empathy would mean confronting racism where it hides in plain sight: in private clubs that celebrate whiteness while ignoring Blackness, and in everyday encounters where bias is excused as banter.

I've thought about this and decided: nah.

Tally Ho!

Giving the midgets a run for their money, in gallops PETA:
Animal rights activists have demanded the Sly Old Fox pub in Birmingham change its name because it is 'derogatory' towards foxes. PETA has suggested the pub, which dates back to 1891 and has hosted a number of famous faces including Charlie Chaplin, becomes 'The Clever Old Fox' instead. They have argued the current name is 'negative' and perpetuates foxes' 'unearned' reputation as pests.

I think they've more than earned that reputation.

While the Sly Old Fox has so far made no public announcement as to whether it will agree to PETA's demands, the suggestion has been ridiculed on social media.

Good old social media, sometimes seeming the only sane thing in an increasingly insane world.

What's In A Name?

Sainsbury's has apologised after removing a pair of trousers from its online store that was advertised using a 'racial slur'.

What?!?

I often buy Tu clothing in Sainsbury's - it's smart enough for the office and pretty good value - but I must have missed this one...

The company - which owns the clothing brand, TU - was criticised for listing a pair of school trousers as having a 'knee grow' hem, a phrase which is allegedly used as a disguise for a racial slur.
The two pairs of trousers in question are advertised as 'Grey Skinny Reinforced Knee Grow Hem Trousers 2 Pack' and 'Reinforced Knee Grow Hem Woven Trousers 2 Pack'.Other school trousers by TU, had various other titles, including 'Skinny Fit Grow Hem', 'Longer Leg Grow Hem' and 'Generous Fit Woven Grow Hem'.

Ah, that'll be why I missed it, not having to venture into the school uniform section. And also not being genned up on what will pass a profanity filter... 🙄

Sharing a picture of the trousers on X, and tagging Sainsbury's, one person wrote: 'Are you aware that the item name below is freely used by racists to bypass n-word filters?
'May I suggest renaming the item. Also maybe a few Black faces in the decision-making process, to avoid this in the future.' [sic] The Tweet was viewed 230,000 times.

Oh, of course, it makes total business sense to hire more Offencefinders General to prevent people with too much time on their hands from finding things to mock on the Internet! The sort of people who are convinced that even innocent 'OK' gestures can be interprested as 'racist'.

The company said it was 'urgently updating' the product labelling after being notified of the issue, adding 'we're truly sorry for the upset this has caused'.

It should have said nothing and ignored the furore entirely.

The Tyranny Of The Aggrieved...

Two items in the 'Mail' this morning show where we're heading...

Dr Erin Pritchard, a lecturer in disability and education, told supermarkets that the term midget was 'a form of hate speech'.
Dr Pritchard acknowledged that some people may think the change is part of 'cancel culture' but argued 'when people scream the name at you in the street, it is only right that it is removed'.
'The change should have happened years ago. It is easy for people not called the word to think its removal is wrong,' Dr Pritchard, who also appeared in Channel 4's Dating with Dwarfism, said.
She added that she had asked Amazon to remove novelty items which use the term but acknowledged it would not be possible to rename items no longer in production such as the MG Midget car or the Daihatsu Midget minivan.

No doubt removal of any mention of them will be the next demand...

And elsewhere:

The incident comes a week after a jury cleared four people of criminal damage despite the fact they did not deny pulling down the statue of slave trader Edward Colston in Bristol.
Earlier tonight, the man said the statue should have been taken down in the past. 'If this happened decades ago, I wouldn't be here would I?' he told the negotiators.

Predictably, like Pritchard, it's 'Me, me, me,,,' all the way through. Emboldened by the verdict, no doubt.

Owen King, 52, who works in marketing, was cycling past when he saw the man chipping away at the statue. He said: 'I saw all the police and I presumed he was protesting about Eric Gill and his background. Then the fire brigade were here as well. People are just wondering, 'why don't they take him off the sculpture?'
'So I think they're just waiting for him to come down. He's got this tiny little hammer and he's bashing away at the leg there. Not much is coming off and he seems to be resting a lot.'

Well, since the police stood around like they usually do, paralysed by the thought that taking action might rebound on them if the miscreant was injured (which is why neighbours' lives are disrupted for a fourth day in Coventry), he had plenty of time.

And no, he's not supported by anyone outside the unhinged:

He added: 'Someone shouted to him, 'get off it, you ugly person, an ugly person desecrating a beautiful thing'. And he shouted 'you paedo'. And then everyone was laughing at him. I think you (should) separate art from the person.'
Responding to the man's comments calling people paedophiles, he added: 'I think it's really reductive.' Moments later one woman, who was walking past the scene, shouted: 'Art should be separated from the person. You should spend your energy and time with something else. Art can be beautiful by itself.'

Why are we allowing people who don't represent the will of the majority to ride roughshod over the rest of us due to the cowardice of the state and the corporations?

Report To The Star Chamber Immediately!

While DeKnight stopped short of calling Cebulski racist, he tweeted it did show a 'deep lack of ethics' for the top editors at Marvel Comics.
The 57-year-old offered up a suggestion to his now-former boss, saying Cebulski should reach out to the Asian community and have a 'truly honest discussion' about the controversy.
'At the very least, I think Cebulski needs to sit down with representatives from the Asian community and have a truly honest discussion about his actions,' he tweeted.
His actions? He used a Japanese pseudonym twenty years ago

And I bet a lot of people are saying 'So what?' (OK, maybe not Spanish feminists, but who cares what they say anyway?).
Marvel did provide the outlet a statement from 2017 when the initial controversy first took place.
'I'm truly sorry for the pain, anger, and disappointment I caused over my poor choice of pseudonym,' Cebulski said. 'That was never my intention. Throughout my career in anime, manga, and comics, I’ve made it a point to listen and learn from my mistakes, which is exactly what I’ve been trying to do with this misstep.'
However, DeKnight was dismissive of Cebulski's apology, claiming the issue is far more complex than just him adopting a Japanese pseudonym.
'Personally, I’m not looking to destroy the guy's life. But I also don’t think he's fit to be the editor-in-chief, either,' he added on Twitter.
I wonder if all those trans nutters will use this as another reason to attack their hated enemy Robert Galbraith..?

It's Not 'The Fans', Though, Is It?

Wasps have asked the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and Premiership Rugby to review the wearing of Native American headdresses by Exeter Chief fans, describing it as ‘cultural appropriation’.
The Coventry-based club, which will host Exeter Chiefs this weekend, was responding to an open letter from its own fan club when it raised the issue on its website.

Well, if the fans don't like it, they could always not turn up for the match?

Headdresses have been worn by Exeter fans since the club first rebranded as the Chiefs in 1999.
In a statement released yesterday Wasps said the practice 'doesn't align with our values'.

Who cares? Maybe it aligns with your opponent's values? But I can understand if it truly is the entire fan base that's objecting.

It is, isn't it?

An open letter from Wasps supporter and Alex Chinery called for action on ‘one of rugby’s most prominent examples of cultural appropriation’.

Ah. No. Of course not. It's just one chippy little virtue signaller who can be safely ignored. And as Fahrenheit211 points out, should be ignored, for the good of society.

Attention-Seekers Get Attention, But Don't Like It...

Police are investigating an alleged hate crime after a 14-year-old pupil said they were branded a 'tranny' and attacked with hand sanitiser in the classroom.
Emily Wilkinson-Quinn, 14, is 'completely traumatised' and has taken time away from school after they were targeted over their sexuality, family claim.
Worried mum Natasha-Jayne Wilkinson, 34, said Emily was followed into their classroom by a male classmate and attacked.
What is it with this family and their hyphens?
Natasha-Jayne said Emily, who has shaven hair, has been bullied after coming out as gay to classmates last year.

She's 14. And 'coming out' isn't enough, I suppose? She has to declare herself by appearance too.

Natasha-Jayne claimed it took the school more than a week to identify the pupil responsible - and he was only suspended from school for five days.

What should they have done, flogged him until he passed out during morning assembly?

A spokesperson for the school's headteacher said: 'The school is unable lawfully, and does not propose, to comment on an entirely confidential matter which involves the welfare of children.'

While no doubt muttering, under theie breath:"...but we can't stop the mother from spouting off to every eager journalist who'll listen in her quest for publicity and her daughter's martyrdom on the cross of genderwar."

Should've Done It Via The Medium Of Rap, Mr Collins...

A geography teacher is being investigated after using the N-word to demonstrate to pupils the pitfalls of pronouncing Niger, the West African country.
They wouldn't have been able to touch you then.
One pupil is said to have walked out of the lesson last week at Chestnut Grove Academy in Balham, South-West London, in disgust. Mr Collins, described as highly regarded and conscientious, later apologised to the class.

For what? The student in question should have faced detention. But no doubt he or she didn't.

But the matter then escalated as teachers, parents and other students complained, with some apparently not realising the context in which the word was used.

Or not caring, so long as they have a chance to get their outrage on?

In a letter to parents, headteacher Christian Kingsley admitted that ‘a member of staff used racist language in a Year 9 lesson’ and promised to ‘robustly’ investigate the matter, adding: ‘The language was not directed at a student. However, we understand that students and their families have, justifiably, taken great offence to this and that there was no reason for the term being used.’

Stop reflexively cringing before these crybullies, or you'll forever be beholden to th...

It is particularly embarrassing for the school because it prides itself on diversity and a ‘decolonised curriculum’ that highlights the effects of British imperialism.

Oh. Never mind. You've already signalled your surrender.

How Did It Ever Get To Court In The First Place?

A man accused of trolling Katie Price's disabled son Harvey was today found not guilty at a trial after the court heard he had shared the video clip as a joke.
Because it was - clearly, and perfectly obviously to anyone who bothered to check - a skit on an incident that actually happened with her and her son on 'Loose Women'.
The ex-model told MailOnline that the outcome at Hastings Magistrates' Court was a 'blow' but insisted it 'only drives me onwards to fight for what is right - for justice'.

You think 'justice' is hounding a person through the court system for mocking you and your offspring? Who the hell do you think you are?

The defendant, Philip Lewer, allegedly shared the video on Twitter last November after receiving it over WhatsApp - and Sussex Police arrested him ten hours later.

Wow! Try getting the police to make an arrest that quickly if you've been burgled!

It was a bad day all round for the reality-deniers, as Maya Forstater won her appeal. Not that that puts them off, though::

Amanda Glassman, Chief Executive Officer of CGDE and Executive Vice President of CGD, said: 'The decision is disappointing and surprising because we believe Judge Tayler got it right when he found this type of offensive speech causes harm to trans people, and therefore could not be protected under the Equality Act.
'Today's decision is a step backwards for inclusivity and equality for all. We're currently considering the various paths forward with our lawyers.'

If it causes 'harm' to trans people when other people point out that you can't physically change sex, that's just too bad. Because you simply can't. And persecuting people for this is like persecuting them for believing in gravity

I Thought You'd Been Quiet Lately, Jim...

The usual suspects are out again:
There was some controversy caused by a scene in which Adrian Dunbar’s Ted Hastings describes Boyle as a “local oddball”. Series creator Jed Mercurio and the BBC have defended the moment, with the broadcaster clarifying that the comment was “not in reference to the character Terry Boyle’s disability”. “The word ‘oddball’ means an eccentric person and has no meaning or connotation of disability,” said the BBC. Mercurio also explained on Twitter that the phrase was a “direct quote” from Barry George, who was originally convicted of killing TV presenter Jill Dando in 1999, before his conviction was overturned in 2007. George used it to describe how the police characterised him (“I was the easiest target on the case. They (police) could just say, ‘We’ve got the local oddball.’”)

Who's causing this 'controversy' then?

Jim Gamble, the former deputy director-general of the National Crime Squad, and now CEO of an independent safeguarding organisation, aimed at protecting the young and vulnerable...

*sighs*

...took issue with the line on Twitter, writing directly to Mercurio: “The script writer of Line of Duty needs to reflect on the line referring to a suspect with special needs as the local oddball… You are wrong on this and would be best just to admit that. This was the Supt in charge of Prof standards, not a suspect referring to themselves. If you want your lead to be seen as crass and offensive this is the way to go.”

Typically arrogant. Well, I suppose he's got the charity behind hi..

Oh!

The Down’s Syndrome Association backed the show (“The most important part of Line of Duty was that one of the main characters in the drama has Down’s syndrome,” it said in a statement)...

Heh! Are they deterred? Reader, they are not...

Whether the remark was deliberately “hurtful” or not, it ties into Line of Duty’s bigger problem – a lack of sensitivity. Boyle is a character who has apparently been physically and verbally abused, manipulated for years and now dumped into the middle of a murder investigation. His character is, for all that we’ve seen of him, a perennial victim – we are never really shown who he is outside the context of this abuse. Like the majority of Line of Duty’s side characters, he exists almost purely to further the propulsive twists and turns of the central plot.

It's a drama show. I think that the purpose of all the characters is that, isn't it?

GMP Have Very Strange Priorities...

Mr Karney tweeted on Wednesday morning: 'Extra security measures have caught two males filming themselves urinating on the mural.
'Thanks to GMP they have been arrested.'

I wonder if the average Manchester shopkeeper is wondering if, should he see some yob emptying his bladder against his shop window via CCTV one night, he could expect the Flying Squad to swoop in with such alacrity?

The clue is in 'mural' - of dead American criminal George Floyd

The latest incident comes two days after the painting was defaced with racist graffiti for a second time.
On Sunday night, the memorial was targeted after a large 'N' was sprayed over it.
The mural was also defaced with vile graffiti last summer when a masked vandal sprayed 'n****r' over Mr Floyd's face.

Clearly, this 'tribute' is doing one good job - becoming a magnet for vandals and keeping them away from other areas!

Councillor Jon-Connor Lyons said the artwork has since been covered up 'to prevent further graffiti or cause any emotional damage to our communities.'

Anyone caused 'emotional harm' by damage to this mawkish, out-of-place so-called 'artwork' needs psychiatric help...

A spokesman for GMP said: 'Officers received a report around 1am on Wednesday 17 February 2021 of two males urinating against a George Floyd mural in Stevenson Square, Manchester.
'Officers attended and two men, both aged 22, were arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated criminal damage. They remain in custody for questioning.'

Unless they were aliens with acid urine, I think any competent solicitor will be able to prove no 'damage' has occurred that wouldn't be erased with a mop.

'Fill In The Blank' Time...

Ooer! What were they of, perchance? Making snake venom cocktails? Leaping off tall buildings?

Oh...
The post was intended to spark motivation, asking its fans: 'Are you getting out for a run, walk or cycle today? It’s a great day to burn off those Christmas calories… post your pics here!'
A stream of responses followed, with some claiming it's 'damaging' to encourage the mentality of burning off calories after eating - but others pointing out it would be strange for a health magazine to not promote working out.

Well, quite!

But clearly, there are people out there who feel they should be listened to. Are they doctors, and nutritionisst? Well, no...

Complaining about the original tweet, consultant psychiatrist Dr Sarah Vohra wrote: 'Hugely concerning and problematic language. We shouldn't be ascribing moral labels to food and exercise or encouraging people to adopt an earn and burn mentality.
'It's the fall out from these damaging marketing campaigns that I see only too well in clinic.
'As a mainstream fitness magazine, why not use the opportunity to promote the positive mental and physical health benefits to be gained from doing outdoors/ exercise; improved mood, better sleep, more energy etc. Disappointing.'

*shrugs*

Another commented: 'Posts like this are why I have been suffering from an eating disorder for over three years.
'This honestly makes me so angry, targeting young women to make them feel guilty for enjoying themselves over Christmas.'

I'm pretty sure the article's got nothing to do with your troubles...

So, The Truth Is No Longer A Defence..?

Delia Bushell, 48, tendered her resignation on Sunday after independent barrister Jack Mitchell found evidence to support a number of the allegations of misconduct against her - including bullying, racist comments and sharing offensive materials.
Hmmm. Such as?
It has now emerged that Bushell allegedly cited US activist Candace Owens who said George Floyd was a criminal.

Which he undoubtedly was. Just as Jacob Blake was. Surely that's not in doubt?

When VirtueSignalling Goes Very Wrong...

Our brave 'non-award-winning freelance journalist' walks into a gift shop...

And, as these people do, feels free to badger the bemused sales assistant about items they themselves don't want to buy and so - of course! - no-one else should be able to buy. Because they are offended.

But then...

Oh noes! You mean other people can be offended too! Well, I hope you've learned a valuable less...

Oh. Clearly not.

How dare he take pictures, Adam. HOW VERY DARE HE!

Only you can do that. Can't you?

Well, I hope this at least has taught you a valuable less...

Oh.

Yes. Having failed and been routed like the little whipped cur he is, he now wants to whip up a mob to ruin a small business because they dared to stand up to him. How very typical, as we see so often at David Thompson's blog.

Hey, Adam - maybe you wouldn't need to get your mental health looked at at taxpayer expense if you were a nicer person? Have you tried that? It's free!

Let's Give Her Some 'Audience Input', Shall We?

Recipes in two of the world's leading food publications are being reviewed after they were accused of...
Having too much fat, salt, and sugar, I suppose?
...stealing dishes from ethnic minorities without crediting them.
*blinks*
'Bon Appétit' writer Alison Roman was criticised on social media for making a watered-down Indian or Caribbean curry without crediting it while Christine Hayes, editor-in-chief of 'BBC Good Food' and 'Olive', has revealed that linguistic changes are being made to some of the 13,000 recipes in their archive.
What...what sort of 'linguistic changes?
Ms Hayes...revealed that generalising phrases such as 'Asian salad' are in the process of being removed from recipes in 'BBC Good Food' and 'Olive'.
What are they going to call it instead? There's no clue in the article, so, Reader, it's up to you! Suggestions in the comments, please...
Ms Hayes told The Times: 'Recognising and apologising for mistakes, seeking to put things right, outlining a clear plan of action and asking for audience input is a step in the right direction.'
Let's give her some, see if she really wants it, shall we?

"Hey, Can We Get In On This? We Can Show You Sassenachs A Thing Or Two About Being Woke!"

Following yesterday's debacles for policing, I give you a tweet from Police Scotland:

And then, a follow up Tweet from Police Scotland:

"Move Over, Met Police, We're The Wokest Farce In The Country!"

Investigated by whom? Local council anti flyposting teams?

No. Avon and Somerset Police, of course!
Avon and Somerset Police said it believed the posters were put up overnight on Saturday.
Supt Andy Bennett (Ed: yup, it's this uniformed clown again, of course...), said the force took "any reported hate crime with the utmost seriousness".
"It is inexplicable and unacceptable," he said. "We are a vibrant, multi-cultural and diverse community. There is no space for hate in Avon and Somerset."
Really? That's surprising to hear, there was a place for it back in 2008. Aqil Farooq has probably made superintendent by now...

Queries to the farce as to what, exactly, makes 'It's OK to be white' some sort of hate crime have gone unanswered. Of course. Because we all know 'It's ok to be black' or 'It's OK to be brown' would never be described as such.

Here's What's Wrong With The Metropolitan Police...

An officer has been warned after tweeting from a police account...
Uh oh! It's not known as the police Kryptonite for nothing!
...that "kicking down doors is probably one of our favourite things."
Wait, what? Did they knock down the wrong door? Fail to get a warrant?
The tweet, which was deleted a short time afterwards, came from the Homerton branch of the Metropolitan Police and showed officers using a battering ram to break down a door.
It continued: “Another warrant conducted on #Victoria ward with the assistance of @MSPHomerton @MPSKingsPark @MPSHackneyWick #knockknock #localpolicing.”
No. It was all legit, above board, and what we should be expecting police to do.

Oh, wait. That's what's wrong with it! According to the usual suspects...
Social media users were quick to condemn the tweet, with Guardian columnist Owen Jones posting: “Really great tweet to send if you want to sound like a bunch of unhinged gangsters, @MPSHomerton! (And yes, this is real)”
Another complained that the message was “sinister”, adding: “As someone who lives in Homerton it makes me feel terrified.
Why, how much cannabis do you have growing in your loft?
"We are aware of an inappropriate tweet sent from the @MPSHomerton twitter account. The officer who tweeted this has been given words of advice and the Professional Standards Unit have been made aware. The tweet has now been deleted."
FFS! Take a knee in front of a rampaging mob of thugs and they couldn't care less. Enjoy your job, the job the taxpayer wants you to do, and they are all over you like flies on shit.

But then I suppose given the performance of their leader, who's surprised?

But They Did Beat You, Didn't They...?

Mr Sayner said: “I can’t believe it, the world has gone mad.
“What’s annoying is the police can find the time to knock on the door about a scarecrow and they’ve got all this crime going on.
“Have they got nothing better to do?”
Yes, it's yet another incidence of 'I'm offended' and the state looking to do something about it. In this case, visit the offending party and claim powers they don't actually have:
“I said I could change the colour of the face if that would make it better?
“She said ‘no, it’s not that, it’s the whole Michael Jackson thing and the red PVC suit'.
“I explained it’s the actual Thriller suit. There was a sign underneath that said 'thriller'.
“She said, ‘no, we need it removing.’
At which point, your answer should have been 'No. It breaks no laws'.
Having taken the Michael Jackson figure down the couple have since created a tableau of Village People performing legendary hit YMCA.
Mr Sayner said: "I thought, 'they're not beating me'. At the moment, when everyone's feeling fed up and a bit down - it’s a bit of fun isn’t it.”
In what way have they 'not beaten you'?

You cravenly did as they asked. They had no power to compel you to do it. They weren't even real police!
A Humberside Police spokesperson said: "We understand that, especially at this time, people are coming together and are wanting to bring light-hearted relief to their communities.
"On Saturday May 23 we did receive a complaint from a local resident who reported they had been offended by a scarecrow on display in a front garden on Compass Road in Hull.
"As with all reports of this nature we want to make sure we talk to everyone involved to look at a way to resolve any situation amicably.
"PCSOs discussed the concerns of the person reporting it to us with the householder displaying the scarecrow, who decided to remove it from their garden.
"There is no further involvement or action that will be taken by police."
There wasn't any to begin with! And until people start to grow a pair and reply with Stephen Fry's response to claims of offence, we'll have uniformed Karens going around thinking they have a licence to bully.

When The PR Tiger Turns On You...

So, it was Pride Weekend and every company that thought they could get some free publicity was donning rainbows faster than a six year old girl with a new packet of glittery felt tip pens.

The National Theatre was no exception:

And then...it all went horribly wrong:

This of course attracted the sort of attention the NT didn't want:

Yes, Stephen, you're missing something. Something the inestimable David Thompson likes to call psychodrama.

It's the 'identity group eating itself again'. Or as Monty Python put it, The People's Front Of Judea syndrome. It seems these lesbians are, if you believe Twitter, a secretly US Alt Right funded lobby group. Not just a bunch of women in sensible shoes wanting a drink.

To misquote Henry Kissinger, “The reason that identity group politics is so vicious is because the stakes are so small.”
