The jury was told the belief in kindoki – the Lingala word for sorcery – was pervasive in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Expert witnesses in the trial would make clear there was "no provision in Congolese life and culture for the maltreatment and abuse of children", Altman said.Leaving aside the astonishing fact that this murder happened a year ago yet has only just come to trial, what are we to make of the bizarre proposal that there’s nothing wrong with this sort of thing unless there are no Church authorities here to keep an eye on it?
"However, if the practice of kindoki is dislocated from the control of churches in the Congo, and the supervisory influence of religious leaders, then it may take on a feral and, indeed, evil character, as we suggest it did here."
Hmmmm.
Well, one solution would be to no longer admit DRC refugees, in case this happens again, wouldn’t it?

Congo, Somalia.. in fact every shithole that strips people of their humanity..
Becuase even with everything we offer them here, they don't ever recover it....
I read in the The Times that there's more barbaric massacres going on in Sudan accompanied by destruction of crops and killing of animals. I can hear the special aid appeals now!
"The jury was told the belief in kindoki – the Lingala word for sorcery – was pervasive in the Democratic Republic of Congo" ..
OK .. all well & good in DRC (frankly, I couldn't give a fish's tit what goes on there) .. but this ISN'T DRC ..
Anyway, since they hold French passports, whether they end up being convicted, or not .. there's no good reason for them to remain in UK .. as soon as the trial is over, kick their arses out !
BTW .. one cannot help but ponder upon what drivel the gobshite "Flabbott" will, inevitably spout, regarding this case ..
@ Captain Haddock: Replusive though they may be, IF the two defendants travelled here on French passports does that not mean that they are EU/French citizens... Maybe they cannot be removed from the UK that easily.
If it's the Congo we're talking about, why can't the sodding Belgians take care of 'em?

It's like weather over there, isn't it? Omni-present.

Spot on! Though as David Gillies points out, it isn't France's problem either!
