One Barmy Scheme We Should Import From The EU…

Women on the dole are being offered a £1,150 fashion and beauty makeover and membership to a dating agency to help them find a wealthy husband.

Dutch jobseekers are being given a new hairstyle and outfit and tips from a lifecoach on how to attract a new partner.
No, not because I think it’s a good idea. I think it’s crazy and a waste of money:
The scheme is being offered by three councils in Friesland, in the north of the Netherlands.

They estimate that if 70 women find a solvent husband, the council can save £330,000 on welfare payments.

They also believe that finding love will help get the unemployed off state benefits by improving their confidence and ambitions.
I just want to see Harriet Harman’s head explode…

I suppose the idea is no crazier than some of the ones labour has come up with in the last few years.

Surely there's a reality TV show in there somewhere...

The three Councils concerned are largely comprised of honourable and principled citizens.

Had it not been for the money involved, you can be pretty sure they would have rejected this idea in disgust.

Worra whiz-bang idea!

Rescuing women, promoting marriage and saving tax-payers money all at the same time.

Good idea in principle but I know a few places where 'Women on the dole' could be extras on the BBC's 'Walking with dinosaurs'
Not saying that some of them wouldn't scrub up ok.
Home Office approved women. Each one tested to BS Standard....

I've been to Friesland, bit like Norfolk but very laid back, old fashioned, flat, own dialect, lots of cannabis.

True!

I suspect Endemol will have something in production for the autumn schedules already!
