Lambeth police borough commander Chief Superintendent Nick Ephgrave said he understood the police had not been informed about the wake prior to it taking place, and would be investigating why.Because it's not a crime to hold a wake, not something that requires a licence (yet!), perhaps?

He was kicked on the ground by several burly policemen in boots and subjected to multiple taserings.
So how does a pretty routine police procedure like this make the news?
"Because it's not a crime to hold a wake, not something that requires a licence (yet!), perhaps?"
Will you stop giving the government ideas!
Fucking hell!
And too right. Who needs to tell the coppers if your'e holding a a wake. Hideous muppets!
Sack the lot and charge them for the privilege.
Most of them are unemployable anyway, that's why they 'work' for the Government.
Maybe I should get a job with the Gov, the above comment was meant for a different post. DOH!
"The Sterling family declined to comment."
Because they have sold their 'story' to a more generous newspaper perhaps?
"So how does a pretty routine police procedure like this make the news?"
Because it isn't routine, would be my guess...
"Will you stop giving the government ideas!"
:D

Yet spookily, was still valid on this one!
"Because they have sold their 'story' to a more generous newspaper perhaps?"
That, and the inevitable compo claim.
Now, reading between the lines, the tasering may well have been fully deserved, but the comment about the wake neeeding the police to be informed? They can get on their bikes!
Obviously in that area all crime has been solved, all reports filed, all targets met, all boxes ticked for there to be time to even contemplate sending a constable to investigate this non-crime.
If that wasnt the case then it's time for a locally elected sherrif to be appointed to reset priorities.
The level of stupidity is astounding.
John R Do you not think that youth stabbings and knife crime IS a priority? Read BETWEEN the line not the lines themselves and maybe you will be a little bit more clued up
