Who Says Community Punishments Don't Do Any Good?

This story is rather heartwarming:
A group of convicts serving a community punishment chased and cornered a robber after he mugged a woman in a park.

The group, who were on a cigarette break while working on the Community Payback scheme in Stoneydown Park, Walthamstow, managed to wrestle the victim’s possessions back from the mugger.
Maybe the mugger will be joining them on their next outing?

Well, no:
But he escaped after supervisor Gary Hall called them off over fears he may be carrying a weapon.
*sigh*

Oh noes! I was actually happy reading one of your posts, instead of the usual rage at people's stupidity. Then came the frigging supervisor douchebag.

I just sort of went "ohhhh" and slumped down, my colleague asked me what had happened in a very concerned voice!

So sad. Still at least the convicts were on the right track I suppose.

Oh dear, going to get a verbal kicking I expect but Gary really had no option, believe it or not as the supervisor he also has a "care" role - he has to try and keep his charges safe from harm, even if they are being "public spirited. You should see some of the "claims" that come in from members of CS details alleging that "someone stole their Rolex when they took it off to start working" and the like" priceless, and unfortunately, despite all "detail members" being told "don't wear jewellery, don't bring your I-pod or I-phone - don't wear your best clothes they, ahem, cough cough, "do" and when these get "damaged or stolen" all too often claims for compensation are, on legal advice, "met" - by the taxpayer of course. Had one of the heroes sustained a serious imjury then the good old taxpayer would have probably ended up forking out cash to cover "damages to property/compensation for injuries received" during the incident and Gary would be wondering about his job security - ok you can start the verbal kicking now ....

I care; I have every sympathy for Mr Gary Hall, and I will have continue to have every sympathy for him as he starves to death in the gutter having been sacked for being a worthless parasite.

Every sympathy up to (and not including) sufficient sympathy to do anything for the valueless vermin.

Back in the 1090s Barclaycard would reward shop staff £50 if they recovered a stolen Barclaycard. (May be they still do)
If there was a price on a robbers head, there would be a lot more 'public spiritedness'.
(Not sure yet if I mean 'head' in the Gurkha sense though.)

"The six men had taken a break from clearing overgrown bushes to drop a colleague off at an appointment nearby."

WTF is that about?

Oh, I've no doubt there's reams of regulations. It just struck me as amusing that he'd fear for the safety of, well, a bunch of crims from another potential crim!

Heh!

"WTF is that about?"

We can but hope it was a job interview!
