"O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"

From an article in CiF by Anne Owers, Chief Mollycoddler of Cons for Her Majesty's Prisons:
"Tomorrow is my last day after nine years as chief inspector of prisons."
Goodbye and good riddance, Annie sweetie! I'd rather the ConDems had given you and your useless ideas the Royal Order of the Boot, mind you.

But beggars can't be choosers.

Yes, Kenneth Clarke shows all the signs of being as bad as you, but we can choose not to re-elect him.

So she was in the job for 9 years, in the prison service that call that a life appointment.

The fragrant Dame writes-

'Resettlement work, which used to be peripheral, is now seen as core business'.

Not if by 'resettlement' she means repariating the 10% or more of the prison population that is foreign to their countries of origin, either as deportees, or to serve their sentances !

CiF is really Anna Owers's natural home, and the only place from which she could have signed off.

Byee!

I suspect this woman is one of an elite band of criminals who create crime markets by foisting wuckfits on communities least capable of resisting them.
It's like a reverse of the Magnificent Seven. Bandits, holed up in prison to build up strength in the gym and cruelty and drug desperation through other methods, are sent into poor villages to tap the meagre resources.

True but, whoever we elect, we get the same old crap as approved by the Howard League or Nacro. Our "choice" is limited to which trendy is to be in charge of the system: we have no choice on policy.

Just in time to avoid the Raoul MOAT fall out.

I see the CiF mods removed your entirely reasonable post. They also took exception to my description of her as 'an unreconstructed 70s throwback'.

Ir probably felt like a lifetime for the prison officers!

"CiF is really Anna Owers's natural home..."

Oh, I doubt we've seen the last of her in their pages...

"I suspect this woman is one of an elite band of criminals who create crime markets..."

I wonder what role she's moved on to? Almost certainly something in an 'advisory' capacity...

"True but, whoever we elect, we get the same old crap as approved by the Howard League or Nacro."

That's certainly true. Those tentacles, and that thinking, seem to spread deeply.

"Just in time to avoid the Raoul MOAT fall out."

Hoe fortuitous!

"I see the CiF mods removed your entirely reasonable post. They also took exception to my description of her as 'an unreconstructed 70s throwback'."

Yup. We were obviously only meant to come to that story to praise Ms Owers, not to bury her...
