"Donut" is an Americanism popularized by the corporate chain Dunkin' Donuts, which is commonly favored over Starbucks by us unwashed/insufficiently woke types. I would have suggested denouncing George on those grounds. Any good babble about false consciousness or the odor of sympathies for American police probably would have done.
