Rewatchable TV November: Fringe

Regular readers may remember I rewatched this show last year

When it first launched over here, I didn't watch at first - I was all 'X Files'ed out. And the adverts I saw for it leaned heavily on comparisions to that, which really didn't do it justice at all.

But I picked it up around about the time Series 3 debuted, and was instantly hooked and used catch up to watch from the very beginning. It was perfectly cast, impressive in scope, and even the occasional 'comedy' or 'innovative' episode was superbly done.

And it wisely didn't outstay its welcome, as that show did. In fact, I could have watched another series or two!

off topic, you probably won't remember far-left "mass immigration isn't real, anyway its a good thing, anyway you deserve it" academic Ludi Simpson.

He's retired now, so he's getting arrested in London with Just Stop Oil!

I (typically? Being contrary is one of my few talents) went the other way, hooked at first then drifting away by series three. Like so many series (and sequels) it's almost as if the writers/producers had one good idea, could (just) stretch it for a second series (almost as if it was shock it was expected to continue) and ran out of steam/started getting desperate by season three.

I also think all these writers must all hang out together because as soon as one has a 'good idea' everyone and his next-door neighbour produce an almost identical story-line series.

The truly upsetting thing (yet another of those age related items I need to pick a bone with whoever is in charge 'up there') is that series I really enjoyed, and watched avidly, now seem ... somewhat disappointing (Just bought Grizzly Adams - so ... sad). I have (literally) hundreds of DVD's and blue-ray collections and can only stand to watch (maybe) a handful (I wont get into the annoying issue of having trouble remembering why I enter a room, but being able to remember song lyrics and dialogue from series I last watched >20 years ago. Sigh!).

Laban! If it's you, good to hear you're still with us. Your blog is sadly missed.

These wackademics get stranger and stranger the older they get...

Yes, there's few that can stand the test of time. I wonder what we'll all be fondly remembering in 20 years time?
