Is The Clue In The Name?

The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) released a report on Thursday into the actions of the former orthopaedic surgeon who treated hundreds of children over five years. The review found that 98 patients (12.4%) experienced some level of harm, and 94 of these cases were linked specifically to the care provided by (him.).
Why was he allowed to continue for so long? Could it be because he wasn't British?

Those Chickens Coming Home To Roost Look Like Vultures....

Scotland Yard failed to properly vet thousands of officers – allowing rapists, racist and violent offenders to join the force. Two serial rapists are among more than 130 officers and staff let in due to vetting failures who have gone on to commit crimes or misconduct, the Metropolitan Police admitted on Wednesday. In a scandal which will raise questions about criminals in uniform across the UK, the Met was one of at least six forces to secretly drop employment checks on new recruits in a rush for extra cash as part of an attempt to find 20,000 new officers.

And not just any old Tom Dick or Harry off the streets would do - HR had a Pantone colour chart of the shades of diversity they'd need to hire to suit the government.

Details emerged in a bombshell Met recruitment audit which revealed the Home Office [and] National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) were aware that some other forces in England were not taking references' of new recruits despite the obvious risk to the public.
The Daily Mail has learnt that the Met was one of six forces to admit in a NPCC survey that it had 'deviated' from national police regulations during the £3billion Police Uplift Programme between July 2019 and March 2023. But sources said the true number may be higher as some forces failed to respond to the NPCC poll.

Probably because they already knew what those poll results would show.  Scary to think it could be worse than the Met, though:

David Carrick, one of the UK's worst sex offenders now serving 37 life sentences for attacks on 14 women, and Cliff Mitchell, a serial rapist who called himself 'the devil', were among Met officers not properly vetted in the scramble to meet recruitment targets. Mitchell kidnapped and raped a woman at knifepoint in 2023 after being welcomed into the Met in 2020 – despite being previously investigated for six counts of rape against a child. Although there had been concerns about his recruitment, a vetting panel aimed at boosting diversity overturned a decision to reject his application.

DEIhiring is a very very bad idea. It's bad enough when it happens in the Prison Service

Were There Clues?

Well Reader, what do you think:

H/T:

Her stint at HMP Styal women's prison in Cheshire was particularly noteworthy, with staff recalling how she would turn up in gold hot pants.

Whoops!

Pegg, a keen gym-goer inside jail, was seen as a “rising star” in the Prison Service, quickly climbing the career ladder from graduate entrant to prison governor in six years, along the way also having breast enhancement surgery.

I fear the biggest boobs here belonged to the Prison HR staff.

Hard Times At The House Of Mouse

Things are going quite differently during President Trump’s second term at the Walt Disney Company. With the troubling effects the DEI ending executive order has had on companies at large including Target, Walmart, PBS and more, the hold out at Disney didn’t last long.

Of course not. Disney is, first and foremost, a business.

Earlier this week it was reported that Disney has begun the process of disbanding and altering various diversity initiatives, which the company once prided itself on and that has left staffers concerned. According to Deadline, employees received a memo this week from Disney HR chief Sonia Coleman, stating the move was intended to align with “business goals and company values,” rather than any specific adherence to Trump’s sweeping range of executive orders since assuming office last month. To many it signals a bending of the knee, which has reportedly been received as unexpected internally compared to how Disney stood firmly by its morals in the past.

Hmmm, it was a paradise on earth before? Doesn't appear so.

“What’s next? Where do we go from here? What do we stand for now, keeping MAGA happy?” an insider told Deadline about the general morale at Disney in the wake of the purported memo. “This is not what I expected from Bob [Iger]— I thought he had our back.

Then you just got an introduction to reality. He has the company's back. That's his job.

If They Rebooted 'The X Files', Mulder's 'I Want To Believe' Poster...

...would refer not to UFOs, but to the FBI itself.

That's if Mulder wasn't a black gay wheelchair-bound woman. Like the DEIhires who turned up in New Orleans to attend 2025's first Islamic terrorism event.

Well, I guess they are teaching something at Quantico other than investigation - they certainly aren't turning out agents like they used to:

Once they found the bombs and ISIS flag on the truck (visible in Tweets from the scene), ol' Althea's earpiece was no doubt buzzing like a hornet nest and the story immediately changed to what everyone else had already figured out - the NOLA Mayor was right after all.

And this rot in the heart of the administative agencies is why the re-election of Trump is probably not going to be the turning point that people hope. Not unless there's a plan to deal with the cancer of DEI going forward.

One To Avoid....

Looks like Harper Collins has decided to make a New Year Resolution to lose money in 2025:

Reni Eddo-Lodge, the author of the 2017 bestseller Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race, has launched an imprint with the publisher HarperCollins. Monument Books will publish titles by writers “who can help us understand our past, navigate our present and map new futures”, said Kishani Widyaratna, publishing director at 4th Estate, the HarperCollins imprint with which Monument Books is being launched in collaboration.

And who will these world-straddling titans of literature actually be

The imprint will launch in February next year with a book compiled by Steve McQueen. Resistance, a photographic history of activism in Britain, also features writing by Gary Younge, Paul Gilroy and Shami Chakrabarti. It accompanies an exhibition at Margate’s Turner Contemporary which opens in February.

It sounds like a hardbound copy of the worst of the 'Guardian's' racebaiting columns to me.

The name Monument is “derived from the idea of each work on the list standing as a new monument to ideas, stories and culture, as well as uplifting or refashioning past legacies,” said 4th Estate.

Translation: twisting the facts and the history until it paints a good light on the worst people.

At a time when the world feels increasingly polarised and uncertain, it is a privilege for us to be working with Reni Eddo-Lodge on an imprint that will help connect readers to the world around them and to each other,” said Widyaratna.

Increasing the polarisation seems a strange way to try to accomplish that, but, well, you do you, Harper Collins...

“We’ve been working hard at wanting to create the most diverse classes possible…”

There's really only one question: Why?

Since the US supreme court banned affirmative action in college admissions in June 2023, US colleges and universities have grappled with how to boost campus diversity amid recent, troubling data. The latest figures on US college admissions at some major universities have shown drops in Black, Latino and Indigenous first-year enrollment.

And why is this an issue? Given the regular reports of how admission of these demographics are changing univercity life provided by the indefatigable David Thompson, why is it seen as a problem to be solved?

Following the supreme court decision, as a means to encourage equity in the college admissions process, Carleton College, Occidental College, Virginia Tech and Wesleyan University have said they would no longer consider legacy status in admissions, a practice where a prospective student receives preference because of an alumna or alumnus relative.
...many still have legacy policies to maintain alumni relations, and to secure funding from alumni, despite research disputing that legacy admissions increase donations, said Richard Kahlenberg of the Progressive Policy Institute, a liberal thinktank.

Ah, I see the issue. It seems that long march through the institutions hasn't quite hung up its walking boots and put on its slippers yet...

The majority of people with generational connections to a university are wealthy and white, said Julie Park, a professor of education at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Oh, heavens! Undesirables!

Schools need to examine other parts of the application process that can create unfair advantages, including use of standardized testing or putting significant weight on a student’s advanced placement (AP) classes, courses that are disproportionately unavailable to students of color, said Sarah Hinger, the deputy director of the Racial Justice Program at the American Civil Liberties Union. “Are schools affirmatively reaching all communities where there may be students who would be strong candidates for their school and enrich their student body?” she asked. “Are they using entry requirements that unnecessarily and unfairly exclude opportunity? For example, AP courses or even calculus may end up providing a skewed assessment of a student’s capability.

Universities as we knew them are doomed, aren't they?
