Not At All, It's The Least A Taxpaying Farmer Should Expect...

Mr Jackson told the Daily Mail of the police response: 'It was a little bit OTT (over the top), I must admit.'But nevertheless they did come, but when they got there, the disaster had already happened, and the dog was long gone.'

The police are always a day late and a dollar short in these cases, but at least this time they turned up ready for action. Some detectives would have been good though:

There was also speculation that the dog in question could have been owned by one of several famous footballers who live in the area. However, Mr Jackson dispelled the rumour, saying: 'I don't think this dog has any connection with him whatsoever.' He believes he is aware of whose dog the real culprit is, however, with three witnesses all reporting the same person
He did not reveal who he believes is responsible. Mr Jackson added: 'This dog in question, I think is kept for a status symbol, and it's there to ward people off. 'It's kept for a reason; it isn't a pet.'

I think we can read between the lines to what breed is under discussion here....

But whether he can get a legal case against the owners may be halted because an update on The Dogs (Protection of Livestock) (Amendment) Act 2025 is due to come into force on March 18, 2026. This act would empower police to enter premises, take DNA and other forensic evidence from dogs suspected of 'worrying livestock'. But this new law comes in exactly three months too late for Mr Jackson.

As always. Police PR Team weren't exactly on the ball here:

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: 'At around 1pm Thursday 18 December, police were called to reports that a dog had attacked a number of sheep on a farm on Bradford Lane, Nether Alderley.
'Officers from the Rural Crime Team attended the scene and found that 21 sheep had been killed by an unknown dog.
'Armed police also attended the scene, but no firearms were dispatched.'

Eh? You meant 'used' or 'fired'?

A Dreadful Familiarity...

That's what struck me about the Bondi Beach terrorist massacre, as I read about it over brerakfast in York at the weekend. All the hallmarks we have come to expect fromn the attack itself to the aftermath and the authorities scrambling to excuse their own part in allowing it to happen...
The alleged gunmen were a 50-year-old, who was shot by police and died at the scene, and his 24-year-old son, who suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital under police guard where he remained on Tuesday. The 24-year-old was in a coma but regained consciousness on Tuesday, NSW police confirmed. Media have identified them as Naveed Akram and his father, Sajid Akram. Naveed Akram is an Australian-born citizen, the home affairs minister, Tony Burke, said. His father arrived in 1998 on a student visa, transferred in 2001 to a partner visa and, after trips overseas, had been on resident return visas three times. The prime minister, Anthony Albanese, said the son first came to the attention of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (Asio) in October 2019. He was examined “on the basis of being associated with others”. New South Wales police and the director general of Asio, Mike Burgess, said one of the shooters was known to authorities, “but not in an immediate threat perspective”.
Muslims, taken in by a country and repaying it with slaughter, coming to the notice of the authorities but crucially, never enough enough notice to prevent their murderous hatred from finding expression, bevause of that peculiar sensitivity rtowards this murderous cult that infests every Western government. And then the police, arriving too late to do any good, as always. Ah, yes, the police:

As if that's supposed to help...
Some witnesses have suggested police were too slow to disarm the two gunmen, who killed 15 people and injured dozens in Australia's most famous beach on Sunday. "There are two officers in critical care... at the moment," Chris Minns said after sustained questioning from reporters. "They weren't shot in the back as they were running away. They were shot in the front."

The point being they shouldn't have been shot at all. Aren't we always told we have no need to protect ourselves, because a paid and professional force stands ready to do it for us? Yet how often it seems that's worse than useless when it comes to the crunch.

Another Woman Owner, Another Disaster

And bloody Wales again!
The incident happened when a landlord arrived at a remote property in Gwynedd to collect rent from his tenants. Upon hearing the landlord's car horn, the tenants' dog became aggressive and attacked the landlord, the dog owner, and her husband
Lisa Grant, 56, pleaded guilty to owning a dog dangerously out of control causing serious injury to her landlord, Gwilym Wyn Roberts, in Rhoshirwaun near Pwllheli on November 17, 2023.

Did she get an appropriate sentence? No Reader, of course not....

A judge at Caernarfon Crown Court, upon hearing that Grant herself was bitten and suffered life-altering injuries, handed her an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

So what? Those are consequences, not mitigation!

The court also heard how a Wales Air Ambulance landed at the scene. The helicopter pilot, Captain Jon Earp, in consultation with a police inspector, borrowed a shotgun and shot the animal four times, as the first shot apparently had no effect.

Everyone who has commented on this story has wondered why the farmer didn't do it himself. I'd like to know too...

Mrs Grant suffered an "awful" injury to her hand which required reconstruction, the court heard. Amy Edwards, defending Mrs Grant, now of Llys Perlysiau, Criccieth, said the dog tore Mr Roberts' trousers and "did nothing more than cut his skin". Ms Edwards said Mrs Grant sustained a significant injury as she tried to regain control of the dog which had never shown signs of aggression before. She was "screaming" as she "attempted to intervene" as the dog attacked her husband.

Ah, the old 'he's never done that before'. Well, thanks to that pilot, he certainl won't do it again.

Mrs Grant is now awaiting her fourth surgery on her arm. Ms Edwards said Mrs Grant could not return to the scene "mentally". She has since been rehoused by Adra housing association and her remaining dogs have been rehomed by the RSPCA.

She has a lifetime ban, so they didn't have much option. The number of other dogs? 37 of them! Speculsatiom on Facebook is that this was a puppy farm.

Captain Earp, the pilot, was officially commended for his actions: "He and the crew and all the emergency services were all put at risk because this dog was dangerously out of control. The judge noted that the dog, named Ricoh, had been "relentless", and Cpt Earp made the "difficult" decision to euthanise him as armed police were too distant at the time.

Yes, as we all know, when seconds count, the police are minutes away.
