Baffling...

Mr Diya, who was a Christian pastor in south-east London, and his daughter are both understood to be British while his son was travelling on a US passport.
His wife Olubunmi Diya, 49, and younger daughter Favour Diya, 14, were also on the holiday but were unharmed.
On Thursday they told investigators that none of their relatives could properly swim and only nine-year-old Comfort had 'some idea'.
Then why would you go anywhere near a pool of that size? It's an odd mentality that seems quite prevalent with certain sectors.

It's rather a notorious meme that such people can't swim, isn't it?

More baffling, that I haven't seen much said about, is

1) This was a pastor
2) On a family holiday abroad
3) At Christmas

Of all the occupations that would normally place a moratorium on time off at xmas, I'd've thought Clergy would be ranking at, or near, number one.

A group of 'anywhere' chancers from the Third World who have accumulated passports from various developed countries. Yep, just a regular British family.

I'm reminded of an incident a few years ago when something was kicking off in Lebanon (fancy!) and the Royal Navy sent a ship to evacuate Brits. Ooh, I thought, they must be holidaymakers, aid workers or perhaps academics working at the American University in Beirut. Reader, I was mistaken. It's way past time when we should stop handing out British passports willy-nilly. I'd be in favour of removing them from a couple of million people at least.

Far be it from me to throw stones at the God's anointed representatives, especially late ones, but one does wonder if there is a link between the declared 'pastor' status of this man, and the fact that religious leaders are (or at least were) partially exempt from immigration laws................

Did they need to top up their tans?

Perhaps it's bad taste to suggest they thought they could walk on water?

The mother has now said that her family could swim. Lining up a compensation claim no doubt. Hopefully she will supply numerous pictures of her family on other holidays enjoying the pools. I've got loads of my kids splashing around so she should have them as well. After all it's unknown for Nigerians to lie.

And they didn't have to change the water because it was free of germs - it had been Pastorised.

And those always have at least some basis in reality...

"Of all the occupations that would normally place a moratorium on time off at xmas, I'd've thought Clergy would be ranking at, or near, number one."

I think you're judging them by the standards of the Church of England...

"Ooh, I thought, they must be holidaymakers, aid workers or perhaps academics working at the American University in Beirut."

Heh!

"...and the fact that religious leaders are (or at least were) partially exempt from immigration laws......"

Perish the thought!

"Perhaps it's bad taste to suggest they thought they could walk on water?"

As soon as the lawyers started getting involved, we knew where this was going, didn't we?
