"He is young. We can't understand how this has happened."

It's quite easy to understand, love.
The man was shot in Haringey, North London, as he jumped over a wall and fell while Metropolitan Police officers were trying to arrest him for drug-related offences.
Seems pretty easy to me, anyway. Perhaps fleeing from the cops isn't a good idea?
David Lammy, the Labour MP for Tottenham, told the newspaper: 'I've met with the family and there is definitely community concern about this incident. We need a full and thorough investigation in how he has ended up with life changing injuries.'
I know you're famously as thick as a whale sandwich, Lammy, but this takes the biscuit.
IOPC director general Michael Lockwood said yesterday that the decision to look at multiple incidents came amid growing concerns about the 'disproportionate' use of the weapon against black people...
Maybe you should look into whether black people 'disproportionately' commit drug crime or resist arrest, or would that raise uncomfortable questions?
Rosalind Comyn, policy and campaigns officer at human rights group Liberty, said: 'The mass roll out of these weapons on our streets is dangerous and must be stopped now.'
Drug crime's pretty dangerous too, isn't it?

Maybe she should investigate the fact that our swingeing and oh, so, effective firearms controls disproportionately affect honest, law-abiding taxpayers.

"Perhaps fleeing from the cops isn't a good idea?" Running away does not create a legitimate excuse for shooting any suspect in the back, JuliaM. It never will.

Taser...that 'safe', abominable weapon. Many of us went on public record to state at the time that in cowardly plod mitts, this vile weapon would never be 'safe'.

Misuse of such weapons may offset the temptation to kill by traditional asphyxia. You know, murder by suffocation effected by three plod fatties seating themselves on a citizen's stomach and rib cage. Or by forcing the head of a handcuffed prisoner between their knees to fatally compromise breathing (plodcar-style execution.)

Although I understand that some police need to be armed, this is what I feared. I don't think this is about being black. I believe the majority of crime is committed by black people, so it's not a racist thing. The problem is that tasers should only be drawn when there is immediate danger. Not when suspected criminals are running away. I think the officer was just too lazy to run after the suspect and decided he was going to get his arrest regardless. This is wrong. There are too many power crazed people out there and it is wrong to give them weapons. There should be a thorough investigation into this and proper training over when to use tasers.

It is perfectly correct to hold an investigation. Given the facts as reported, it would be quite wrong to find any fault with the policeman's behaviour.

If you watch the Manchester filling station incident, you see why Taser use should be very controlled. Also, if shooting someone who is running away is OK, what about that farmer imprisoned for doing just that? The copper in the Manchester incident should be sacked. Bastard.

Pity it wasn’t Lammy shot.

@ Anon

The task of investigation is delegated to other plod. So what you meant to state was "...it would be quite unusual to find any fault with a policeman's behaviour."

In this judicial vacuum, we can hope that plod misuse of guns will be appropriately targeted by armed civilians.

I agree with you about the Manchester filling station incident. That copper was just itching to use the taser. The incident could have been dealt with without using a weapon.

John Apter, the chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales, said: "To even consider freezing the pay of our essential public sector workers to help the financial recovery would be morally bankrupt and would be a deep and damaging betrayal."

Translation: We have sold out our ethics and morals for you, so you must continue to pay us to do your dirty work.

Spot on!

"Running away does not create a legitimate excuse for shooting any suspect in the back,..."

You see, Melvin, I no longer care. We are plagued with these parasites, and another one off the streets - jail or dead, makes no matter - is a success, as far as I'm concerned.

"The problem is that tasers should only be drawn when there is immediate danger. Not when suspected criminals are running away."

See my response to Melvin, Feral. I'm past caring. They've blighted our country and frankly, the cops could treat them however they wish, and I'll cheer them on.

"Also, if shooting someone who is running away is OK, what about that farmer imprisoned for doing just that?"

No jury should have convicted him. Doesn't change the fact that in this instance, we're one scumbag off the streets. Which is a mark in the 'success' column. I'm only sorry that the petrol station miscreant survived!

"The incident could have been dealt with without using a weapon."

A lot have said that. None, strangely, have suggested how...
