Oh, Look! It's The Usual Suspects...

No, not just the rent-a-mob who went on the rampage in Bristol last night, taking advantage of the previous reaction to their antics:

Too stupid to realise the revulsion over the images of burning police vans brings this law closer? Or not really caring one way or the other, so long as they get 'likes'?

You decide, Reader.

I don't see those on the right, sorry, extreme right as we are all branded, having a great deal of sympathy with any side involved in this.

The old bill stood or kneeled by and let the lefties do whatever they wanted, yet soon as the genuinely peaceful protesters maybe not of favoured lefty groups protested against loss of freedoms the bill behaved somewhat differently, their cheerleaders in the meejia on side as usual and those lefty groups silent just as they were as thousands of young girls were systematically vilely assaulted.

Seeds that have been planted are bearing sour fruit, the harvest about to be reaped will be to the taste of totalitarians and their chosen boot boys.
You'd need a heart of stone.

I thought that you were referring to the earlier mostly-peaceful gatherings.
They should have formed a thin blue line and taken their collective knee.
Result - no arrests. Everyone happy.

How hard is it to define what constitutes a peaceful protest? Marching, holding placards making speeches = peaceful. Blocking the highway, fighting smashing stuff up and setting fire to things = not peaceful. What you definitely don't do is base your decision on the political opinions of the demonstrators. This isn't rocket science but it seems to be too difficult for our thick as mince politicians.

When the locals in Bristol know that they can topple statues and sink them in the harbour with impunity, they will thereafter have every encouragement to riot violently at any opportunity.
Plod have no reason to whinge, you reap what you sow.

Women (I use the word loosely) were urinating at the feet of police cordons and other rioters were defecating.

What has this country become? MI5 should be rooting out these animals who travel around the country to join any protest they can and turn it into a riot.

Why does the government need to pass new laws to deal with people who are doing stuff that is already illegal?

While stationed with the British Army in Singapore during the 60's, I had to take part in trying to control the communist led riots. The Singapore government used a very effective, non lethal, method of dealing with the rioters. When they refused to disperse and attacked the Police and British soldiers, a group of Police officers suddenly appeared and sprayed the rioters with a red dye, which was impossible to wash off. This enabled the authorities to identify and arrest the rioters over the next week or so. I am surprised that no one has thought of doing this during the riots and 'peaceful demonstrations' by BLM, antifa, or XR. They don't need water cannon, adapted hand held fire extinguishers will do. Perhaps they're concerned St Greta of the Perpetually Offended will claim the dye is not eco friendly?

I'm finding myself having a little sympathy for them. It's clear that nothing can be legally done to bring this rogue Government under control and now they want to ban peaceful protest? What's left?

It really is a 'can't they both lose?' situation, in some respects...

"How hard is it to define what constitutes a peaceful protest?"

Eggs were thrown. If you go to a protest with eggs, that's pretty solid, in my view. Bottles, well, you can always claim you were drinking and got caught up in the heat of the moment...

"What has this country become?"

We are confronted with the answer daily, it seems.

"It's clear that nothing can be legally done to bring this rogue Government under control and now they want to ban peaceful protest? What's left?"

I genuinely fear the answer is going to turn out to be worse than we could possibly imagine.
