"But despite the attack, the relationship continued ..."

The attack? Glad you asked, Reader:

One partner had only been dating Barrett for less than a month when he carried out an attack that “ruined her life” and blinded her in one eye.
...
His victim was taken to the QEQM hospital in Margate before being rushed to the William Harvey in Ashford for emergency surgery. The incident left her blind in her right eye and she suffered a ruptured globe, a detached retina, a split lens and a fractured cheekbone.

Some women clearly don't learn their lesson the first time:

...just seven weeks later Barrett once again exploded in rage.

Gosh! How unexpected.

Despite the woman’s pleas for him to stop, he continued to punch and kick her before pulling out a flick knife and threatening to dig out her other eye and stab her in the face.
...when Barrett was arrested, he told officers his girlfriend was lying and that the injuries were from him and his partner practising Muay Thai together. He claimed she had smacked her head into a wall, injuring her eye on a protruding nail.

*sighs*

Barrett’s aggression continued with a subsequent partner, with whom the criminal had been involved on an on-off basis between 2015 and 2021.

Where do all these women come from..?

Mitigating, Barrett’s barrister, Ms Edwards, emphasised that he had experienced a difficult upbringing and suffered from serious mental health problems.

He's not the only one, clearly.

...handing down his sentence, Mark Weeks said the thug’s history of violence could not be blamed on his mental health problems.
“You were a cold, calculative and violent bully,” said Judge Weeks. Barrett was jailed for nine years and six months, with an extended licence period of five years.

After which time he'll be a model citizen, right?

When I was unfortunate enough to be on a relief we used to go to the same addresses over and over again to domestics. However if the woman didn't want to press charges in the old days we were stuck. That's changed now fortunately but you can't fix stupid.

It's one I've never understood either. Maybe she sees a future and wants it so badly.

When I worked A&E the nightly trawl of "domestics" was ... revealing.

All but a miniscule handful (equally male and female) are 'mutual', not just that those women are "codependent" (and enjoy or need the violence) but that most women were as/or more violent themselves, and usually the originator of any 'fight'.

Whilst, with the reality that men are bigger and stronger, about 50% of the injuries were to the woman. But men are 'restrained' (even the thugs, by cultural conditioning, and if not that, fear of the law) whilst ... women aren't (in anyway shape or form, and are actually encouraged/rewarded for acting so). So, whilst women would attend with bruises and breaks, men would attend with stab- wounds, poisoning and massive burns, etc. (those that weren't just BID, brought in dead).

So? Chances are she's ... as bad as he is. One day she'll decide she can do better (get some money/sympathy/etc) and ... he'll be toast. Stabbed, burnt, poisoned, or the 'new fella' will be used to get rid of him and ... the women and press will (as they always do, whatever the truth) line up to praise her for her restraint (and probably nominated her sainthood).

His obituary, soon to be mentioned on page 32 (under the wanted adds). Guaranteed.

An immutable law of nature, it seems...

"Maybe she sees a future and wants it so badly."

If it's a future she's seeing, she needs a better brand of tea-leaves...
