Detective Inspector Ian Still said: "We received a report of a woman being raped after she was pulled into New Steine community gardens.Oh, great!
"We take all such reports seriously and were quick to respond. However, an extensive investigation has led us to conclude that this offence did not take place.
"We appreciate the public's support in this inquiry and we will always investigate fully any report of sexual offences."
Still, at least this one's being charged:
A 24-year-old woman from Brighton has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. She has been bailed to December 9.Suspended sentence, anyone?

Interesting offence. Not wasting police time but perverting the course of justice. Makes me wonder if she isn't a fantasist but was actually vindictive and went as far as accusing someone specific. Nothing to indicate that, but I do wonder why that choice of offence.
Good .. I hope the Beak gives her a good, stiff turking-to .. ;)
"There Seems To Be One A Day Lately.."
How long, I wonder, will it be before some meddling prod-nose promulgates an edict saying that we should all have "Five A Day" ? ...

Perhaps she did name someone, but - for once - it never got that far before they woke up and realised she was a fruitcake?
