Oh, That 'Typical South London Style'...

Dirk Bischof, 46, was in the park with his daughter when he saw the air ambulance land.
He said: “The actual incident happened inside the festival ground. We already went like three times this week so we were just chilling in the park.
In typical south London style, the people were standing around, spectating.
“I've spoken to quite a few people to find out more and many told me "it was a miracle nothing happened sooner, considering it was school holidays'.
“Burgess Park, being so close to the various estates has often got an explosive atmosphere during school holidays, with lots of young people descending onto facilities."
Nothing to see here, move along....

You may ( or may not ) be interested to know that in the 50's and 60's it was planned to build on what is now Burgess Park. The buildings would have been in the style of the North Peckham and Gloucester Grove Estates with their wonderful walkways in the sky. The original intention was for someone to be able to get off the train at The Elephant and Castle and walk to Peckham on walkways 60' in the air. Fortunately Burgess Park was not built on otherwise the whole area would have really been a no go zone for any form of authority.

School holidays indeed. Imagine trying to control a classroom full of such children, or maybe they are left alone to do what they want until the bell sounds, which is the safer option by the looks of things. I wouldn't want to even be in the same room for a teachers salary.

I'd imagine those building looked fabulous on the drawing board. When the architect fondly imagined that decent people would live in them.

I'd rather not be in the same postcode.... :(

It already is - just combine the javelin with the 1000 meter sprint.
