Yep, you can imagine the story-line now: The past catches up with disgraced ex-Met high-flyer Detective Superintendent exiled to Northern backwater when her former boss and ex-lover approaches her about a series of transsexual online hate crimes that seem to have a link to a cold case (the only one that this feisty woman in a world of men never cracked) about a series of immigrant-related race hate crimes centred around the leafy suburb where her unconventional marriage to a Critical Theory English lecturer and rising-star nose-flute jazz improvisation guru foundered due to the ingrained sexism, racism and appearist bigotries of the London police incapable of respecting a haddock-faced humourless frigid obsessive nth-wave feminist. Meanwhile, her plucky but naïve gay Harvard graduate detective sergeant notices a pattern showing marked similarities with an unsolved series of rape torture property development hate crimes in the leafy suburbs of Daily Mail-reading Hartlepool on the early 1980s’ where a Tory rising star and fanatical Brexit rising star and made his tawdry fortune in the post-Miners’ Strike rising star economic and social wilderness….
