The Idea That The Modern Police Service Knows What Is 'Practical' Is Laughable

A senior police officer has said it is “not practical” for officers to investigate crimes such as shoplifting and criminal damage as his force bids to save £400 million.
But it's totally practical to chase decades-old abuse cases and Tweets that offend people?
Deputy assistant commissioner Mark Simmons said the force had to work with fewer officers and less money, with the Crime Assessment Policy introduced to help prioritise resources.
He said: “Clearly this is not about letting criminals get away with crime, or not investigating the cases we are solving at the moment, if we thought it was, we simply would not do this.”
If you were capable of thought, you wouldn't do half the things you currently do!

Are you sure you couldn't save a few pennies by abolishing the Rapid Reaction Twitter Force?
“We need our officers to be focused on serious crime and cases where there is a realistic chance that we will be able to solve it.”
Really? Or is that only when it's in nice sunny countries?
Ex-Met detective chief inspector Mick Neville told the Sun: “This is justice dreamed up by bean counters in shiny suit land.
“No consideration is being given to victims. The new principles will focus police attention on easy crimes where there is a known suspect.
“Few professional criminals target people who know them, so the worst villains will evade justice. Not investigating high volume crimes like shoplifting with a loss of under £50 will give junkies a green light to thieve.”
Notice it's always ex-detectives that say this?

As if to highlight your point, today's Mail published an article with respect to the response of the Met to the epidemic of moped crime. The cunning plan is to chase the nimble scooter thieves on cumbersome BMW 650cc motorcycles!
A 125cc Yamaha mio scooter can outperform a 1000cc superbike in city street configured races (those with doubts may wish to view the Youtube videos) yet Metplod appear to be supremely ignorant of reality when spending vast sums of public money. The purchase of German superbikes bikes, which are more appropriate for off road scrambling, is a measure of Plod Practicality.

But behold...WC Jaded and PC Penise have yet to contribute their flawed sapience.

Might I take this opportunity to pass on a message to Mz. Bex Bailey-I'm sure she is an avid reader of this blog?

Hi Bex, GOOD NEWS! REJOICE! There IS indeed a truly independent body to which one can, and should, report rape and other serious crimes too! You don't need to wait for Jesus...oops I meant Jeeza to set one up; it's called the 'Police'. Don't be fooled by the nail varnish and rainbow cars, they will not seek to protect the Labour Party and any Allegator- however deranged- is guaranteed anonymity for life.

But wait...there's more...IF you report it to the P-O-L-I-C-E they are duty bound to investigate and the Labour Party will be duty bound to immediately suspend the accused, no one will be able to 'protect' him .

No, no, don't thank me. I'm happy to be bearer of such glad tidings. OH BTW the whole 'Police' thing has been around for a couple of centuries, that's even longer than JC, so you'll probably get a drinkable cuppa at the interview.

For those of us who were around in the seventies this is all rather reminiscent of the union tactic of 'work to rule'.

The disgraceful aspect of the current situation with the police, (and the NHS and other public sector 'services'), is that it is the bosses who are instigating the industrial (in)action.

The other tactic it resembles is the good old "Nice society you have here, sunshine... Be a shame if something happened to it. Know what I mean..."

The first rule of Policing is the "prevention of crime". Only after that comes the detection and prosecution of offenders. Beat officers may seem old fashioned, but their presence did help prevent crime and, despite the modern, high-tech world, they work in, there should still be a place for them. Sadly, the introduction of CSOs allowed the top floor, politically correct, sociologist degree holders, to use them to cut down the number of real Police officers in order to save money.
I live in a fair sized town which had 3 Inspectors, 6 Sgts, and 22 PCs, to cover 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. The Police station has now closed down and the nearest one is in the next county! Naturally, crime figures, not including Shaznay complaining that La Touche Beyonce has called her a slag, has shot through the roof. If Vlad the Impaled was standing for Police and Crime Commissioner, I'd vote for him.

How much was your lawnmower worth Melvin? £49.99 perchance?

Melv,
Your comments have obviously touched the hearts of the top floor at NSY as they are deploying Police officers on scrambler bikes. Do keep up dear boy.

@MTG,

"The cunning plan is to chase the nimble scooter thieves on cumbersome BMW 650cc motorcycles!"

Correct. A 175-250cc Trail or Enduro motorcycle would be a cheaper and more practicle purchase.

" which are more appropriate for off road scrambling"

Corrected: more appropriate for off road green laning / bridleways - too heavy & cumbersome for scrambling/MX

.
@Anonymous,

" The first rule of Policing is the "prevention of crime"."

Yes, yes, yes. Peel did not want Police solving crime as he foresaw the conflicts we suffer.

@Anon,
Thee first rule of Policing is, of course, the protection of life and property. I apologise for the error. Prevention of crime comes after that. The Peelian principles still apply and the Police do still detect crime, though Police officers would rather prevent it in the first place. How to do that? Local knowledge and intelligence gathering can help resolve the fact that Police officers can not be everywhere at one time. You could stand a Police officer on every street and road corner in the land and you would still get crimes committed - assume Melv didn't live on a corner though when his hovermower was, allegedly, nicked from his (unlocked) shed.
To you and all the other trolls who do nothing but complain about the lack of proper Police action, write to your Chief Constable, in crayon if you're not allowed sharp instruments, and offer sensible advice. If you do nothing, but complain, you really have no grounds to moan simply because life Isn't going the way you feel it should be.

Two points-we have internet forums of our own within the police and the comments would make your hair curl. No-one agrees with this new "policy" but senior officers don't get promoted by listening to their troops or using common sense.
Also I know Mick Neville. He is the stereo-typical blunt speaking Yorkshireman and he would have gone much higher had he not had the habit of telling the truth. If you google him you might see that he was hounded out of the Met for daring to support Brexit.

@ Floppy Penise. Whilst the original Latin would be wasted on the ignorant, I do hope there is a small crumb of Historical comfort in the knowledge that vigiles urbani were also considered to be fair game for mockery. With apologies to Plautus for humour lost in translation: 'One can no more protect than one can conceal, an arsehole bursting with ideas about itself.'

Penseivat. "A police officer is a citizen, localy apointed, with authority under the crown, for the protection of life and property, the prevention and detection of crime, and the aprehention of offenders againt the peace." (Nr 1 PTC, Bruche, 1979.)

Hope that helps.

The suggestion that police are parasitic on crime is highly inaccurate. Police are criminals in their own right; the harmful parasites of an honest host.

Probably flowers & chocolates these days!

"For those of us who were around in the seventies this is all rather reminiscent of the union tactic of 'work to rule'."

Quite! But then, no-one of ACPO grade lives in the areas frequented by street rats like these.

"Sadly, the introduction of CSOs allowed the top floor, politically correct, sociologist degree holders, to use them to cut down the number of real Police officers..."

Spot on!

"At least he knows the difference in using the words 'Fewer' and 'Less'."

Heh! That's actually rare.

"...and he would have gone much higher had he not had the habit of telling the truth."

And that tells you all you need to know about modern 'policing'... :/
