Does "Be Seen, Be Safe" Ring A Bell?

Nathan Taylor, 22, from Leigh, has been left with severe bruising as well as a hefty bill to fix his custom-built bike after the hit and run incident.
Speaking to the Echo, he said: “I was riding my BMX along Leigh Road to meet my girlfriend after work. I passed Woodfield Park Drive and there was a car coming in the opposite direction. He wanted to turn down Woodfield Park Drive and just ran me over.
“The car then stopped and a white man, with possibly grey or white hair, hurled abuse at me and asked me where my lights were.”
Seems an odd question, which I notice you don't answer in this news article.
His bike, which he built himself and has cost him £1,400, has suffered significant damage.
“I got a new set of wheels costing £400 for Christmas and the back wheel has been damaged along with scratches to the frame, bars and forks. The seat was a rare signature seat which has also been ripped and ruined.”
Perhaps a few quid on lights or road safety lessons would have been a wiser purchase?

Millenials only have to obey the laws with which they agree: they're so entitled. Add to that the additional entitlement of a cycling fanatic and you have someone we should worship indeed.

Back in ancient times, bike lights were quite expensive to buy and keep in with batteries. Nowadays there is simply no excuse, bike lights with LEDs and modern batteries are cheap to buy and cheap to maintain. You don't even need to fit them as they just strap on with a piece of stretchy rubber. Those of us who ride regularly in the dark can now spend a bit more and get USB chargeable lights which are simply superb, but at the bottom end of the market there are lights that are perfectly adequate for £2.99 including batteries.

Millenials do not need bike lights - they emit a natural glow of self-satisfied smugness. If this is not seen by other road users, it's hardly the Millenial's fault.

iirc RTA on bicycles:

Legal Requirments - visibility

Always:
1. Red Rear reflector to BSxxxx
2. Orange Pedal reflectors to BSxxxx

During "lighting up" time:
1. Front and rear lights to BSxxxx illuminated

Plod should be prosecuting Nathan Taylor, not harassing the car driver.

My bicycle (a Lee Enfield) complies - bell, dynamo lights in case LED lights fail/forgotten/lost/stolen. Also has front white reflector.

Indeed! And well done Pcar! If only more would emulate you.
