The World Is Changing...

Philip Pullman has called on publishers to stop damaging “the ecology of the book world” and start giving authors a fairer share of the money their books earn.
...and if you don't like it, there are other options.
“To allow corporate profits to be so high at a time when author earnings are markedly falling is, apart from anything else, shockingly bad husbandry. It’s perfectly possible to make a good profit and pay a fair return to all of those on whose work, after all, everything else depends. But that’s not happening at the moment,” said Pullman.
Instead of whining, change the process yourself! It's not easy, but when is anything worthwhile easy?
The Society of Authors has set out a range of challenges for publishers, calling on them to “commit to paying authors a higher proportion of turnover”; to be more transparent about how writers, illustrators and translators are paid; and to draw from “a wider pool, not just celebrities, but writers from across society”.
Yes. More 'diversity'. That's what's needed.

From someone who has benefited from the big publishers' advertising budgets and is now a household name. Cry me a river. Leggy gives me 50p a book and I am happy enough with that. He doesn't make much either as the printers get most of the money - Amazon, in our case.

If the onion fails, it is the right time
to put the chopped onion in a tubberware container and put the blade safely to the sink.

I assume the rant in the paper is on behalf of all the SJWs from the minorities that get a book published because anti discrimination quotas must be met and then find they aren't getting the income they think they deserve because the book doesn't sell.

Tough luck, don't write drivel and expect to be paid for it.

Sean Penn has had a novel published. I haven't read it, I have read reviews and exerpts. It's drivel but it will sell.

I read quite a few of the comments on that Graun article. I am now blinded by stupid. There's some poor fool called Pikeman trying to explain reality to the monkeys on there but he's wasting his time.

True writers want their books read. And money shouldn't matter.

"Tough luck, don't write drivel and expect to be paid for it. "

But with JK Rowling as a role model... ;)

Sell it might. But if no-one reads it, what was the point?

"I am now blinded by stupid."

CiF articles should carry health warnings! :D
