An uninsured learner driver caused a fatal crash while taking friends to catch an early morning flight.Luckily, no innocent person was involved:
Piotr Koch, 26, of Tytton Lane East, Wyberton, stepped in to help work colleague Diana Priede, 21, after the driver who was due to take her to East Midlands Airport let her down at the last minute. And so came a cropper. As did a perfectly innocent tree:
Koch was left with little more than an hour to complete the 70 mile journey from Boston and drove at high speeds in a bid to make up time.
"The defendant failed to negotiate a right hand bend and lost control of the vehicle.Killing a passenger. Maybe the survivors will rethink their choice of chauffeur in future?
"He left the road on the nearside but started to get the car back on the road without regaining proper control. He then left the road on the offside and barrell-rolled.
"The sat nav indicated that the defendant exceeded the speed limit for the majority of the journey.Well, it’s just a shame that we don’t have more traffic cops, or this sort of thing would…
"The average speed from Donington roundabout to the scene of the collision was 79.93 mph. There was a 60 mph speed limit at that point.
"Koch was the holder of a provisional licence. He was not supervised and did not have L plates on. He had not passed his test and had only had six driving lessons."
Oh:
Koch, who was also not insured, had been stopped by police twice in the previous month for driving without a licence and been fined on each occasion.*sigh*

And I suppose its too much to ask that this irresponsible & law-flouting Latvian will be told that his continued presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good ?
I mean (and perish the thought) .. he might just take offence ..
Julia not sure if this is an anti-immigration story or anti-police.Let's assume the latter.
He would have been stopped and fined for driving without insurance or a licence. He would have had his car confiscated on each occasion.I do it all the time.Unfortunately it is not an arrestable offence,I can't do anything about that i'm afraid. He is not banned from going out and replacing one shit-heap car with another.

Hey, I can multitask, you know... ;)
I honestly don't believe this post to be either anti-immigrant or anti-police ..
Its simply yet another clear example of how laws designed to protect the many are being routinely flouted by the few ..
And until strong, determined measures are taken by the judiciary against those who transgress, things will continue to deteriorate, despite the efforts of police to combat them ..
This particular man has no excuse & cannot even plead ignorance .. he has "form" & should be deported as he quite clearly represents a demonstrable danger to the public ..
Yes I agree CH.But if we don't always deport murderers I don't suppose will get rid off uninsured drivers instead.
When I come back in my next life I am going to learn an East European language and make a fortune as a police interpreter.I'm on first name terms with some of them as i'm putting their kids through private schools.

I'm interesting in the part where the sat nav recorded the speeds. What Sat nav was that then? I'll be avoiding that make thanks.
btw : Trees usually get over the trauma fairly quicly. Like Politicians they don't tend to worry about things in the past.
btw2 : My captcha was missess - LOL. No he didn't.
Deciding who the Koch is can be a problem. Anyway:
♫♪♫♪...2 plods A-kissin and a Hughie in the lavatory ♫ ♥.

Sadly, thanks to that 'free movement of EU citizens', we can't.

My TomTom certainly shows me my speed (it's interesting to see if it's in line with my speedometer) but I wasn't aware it could also record that speed!
