I Am Genuinely Baffled…

Trees, planters, benches – and even a fountain – could be installed to attract people to Victoria Gateway
Errrr…why?
… and as a guide to help blind pedestrians.
You ‘help’ the blind by putting obstacles in their way? Who knew..?
Southend Council will look at ways to encourage people to congregate in the former roundabout outside Southend Victoria train station.
I repeat…why?
Labour councillor Judith McMahon has also called for the disused fountain outside the Civic Centre and police station in Victoria Gateway to be relocated to the junction, which went through a multi-million pound revamp in 2011.
So, despite that multi-million down the drain, it’s got to be dug up yet again, at a cost of how much, all to ‘attract people to congregate there’?

I'm baffled. Are Southend Council thinking of bringing in a ‘standing around tax’?

And will there be signs in Braille advising merry making invitees that plod crowd dispersal schemes will be in operation around chucking out time to prevent people from congregating too much?

Surely it is obvious that in an transport hub full of buses and people dashing to catch trains, the last thing you need to create is even more opportunities for people to sue the council after suffering injuries. It is a space for "a multiplicity of pedestrian movements", as per the specification, so let them get on with it. It is not a park; it is intrinsically a place of transit where you do not want people to hang around. Do the councillors not want what they themselves specified?

P.S. CBA are part of the delivery team at the new Stonehenge visitor centre and site re-design. It is difficult to tell from the photo but given a brief of making a building disappear in to the landscape as far as possible, it looks good so far. They are hoping to open the new centre this December, the final big change-over scheduled for early summer 2014.

Aye right.

And in three years the same imbicilic bastards will be campaigning to have it shut down because it is a gethering place for alkys, druggies, dog shit spreaders, "Graffitti" criminals, and ladies of negotiiable effection.

Fucking twats.

Followed by public hangings at Victoria Gateway for non-payment. Perhaps?

Not, it would seem, to Southend Council!

"And in three years the same imbicilic bastards will be campaigning to have it shut down because it is a gethering place for alkys, druggies, dog shit spreaders, "Graffitti" criminals, and ladies of negotiiable effection."

At the moment, it's attracting skateboarders in vast numbers.

"Followed by public hangings at Victoria Gateway for non-payment. Perhaps?"

Heh!

Because all those skateboard parks built in the 80s, demanded by skateborders, and costing local "authoritys" millions were closed because; ".....it is a gathering place for alkys, druggies, dog shit spreaders, "Graffitti" criminals, and ladies of negotiiable effection."

The world turns. The circle remains constant.
