If they have individual buttons for each employee, the employees can use their knuckle joints, unless they are pressing on touch screens, some types of which rely on body heat to work (a knuckle may not be warm enough) but if more than one employee touches the same buttons, how can they identify which ones pressed the "dislike" button, unless the button records the time of operation which can be compared with the timestamp on the video surveillance equipment ? As regards selecting the brightest, bright people are unlikely to work in such a place. The union has the task of uttering grievances and soliciting public sympathy, for which their officials are paid. Quietly suggesting circumventions will not achieve anything in that direction. Besides, the management have, as I already suggested, CCTV with which they can see who used knuckles, gloves or pens when pressing the relevant button. Maybe the employees should wear masks ?
But, come on, this is the bottom end of the market paying minimum wage. Even if some employees are simply biding time until they get something better, the majority are there because that is all they can do.

Sort of easy description for Capacitive touch screens. Resistive touch screens react to pressure; thus pen, glove, knuckle works.
Now guess what type of self-service screens NHS & GPs have installed to check-in for your appointment?
A clue: NHS & GPs are virtually wallpapered with Alcohol hand disinfectants and notices to use them - to kill deadly Germ[an]s which hands/fingers spread.
No surprise then they use Capacitive touch screens /facepalm
@Pcar I was given the body heat explanation at a place I worked in. Capacitive screens should presumably work even if you spread thin aluminium foil over your digits, unless their purpose is to record your arrival and departure using fingerprint recognition software.

"Sheesh! They really don't recruit the brightest, do they?"
They get what they pay for.

Or just ignore the buttons?

I wouldn't bother with buttons, speaking the right words into the right ears works wonders.

Good point!
".. the employees can use their knuckle joints.."
Sports Direct employees need those to walk on!

Or possibly all they want to do?
