The media hate assisted motherhood. Women who simply want a little help to have a baby are portrayed as unnatural, evil and downright selfish. Are they? Odd, I can recall many heartwarming articles on the pain of couples trying for a baby.
Any proof of this, Dea?
It's not rocket science, love. Even without pointing out that millions will flock to the UK to see a Royal Couple, while the Nigerian will skedaddle home having drained the NHS coffers (not likely to be the case for Kate Middleton).
Earlier this week, the Daily Mail headlined on two women who'd had IVF treatment – one single, one Nigerian – who were "milking the NHS".
In the next column, it was joyfully revealed that Kate Middleton hoped to have a baby. Ironically, rearing a royal costs the taxpayer millions. But that's a bill we seem to be prepared to pay.Well, yes. You see, Kate Middleton is English, and has paid into the NHS and the Nigerian woman is, well, Nigerian, and hasn't...

So, apart from this not-quite-relevant-comparison (unless you want to allow for the Nigerian's pretty rich husband), any other evidence?
Ah. That's a 'no' then? The flawed economic argument against IVF is just a screen behind which those opposed to oddball families can conveniently hide. What those who decry assisted conception really don't like is stroppy, single or middle-aged women having babies. Like me.
I note that Dea Birkett's wiki profile says she's an ex-circus performer. If true, I can only assume she was a contortionist...

"I can only assume she was a contortionist..."
Or a logic juggler with an acrobatic philosophy and...
How can anyone take her seriously?
I wait for human life to be reduced to carbon footprint. The breeders have more or less tripled the world population in my lifetime. All highly irresponsible.
I suspect she's actually a former clown ..
You know, the one who was always being hit on the head by the other clowns ..
Which might account for the scrambled state of what she considers to be a brain ..
Not to mention the amount of tax money these women will demand after having taxpayer funded IVF (when it works).
Perhaps when being considered for IVF all the recipents should sign an agreement that they should not recieve any taxpayer funded benefits aimed at children. See whether they are still so keen (wisdom of solomon and all that !)
Thing is having a child is not a right - it is a privilidge, that some people cannot have them is sad - but it is sad that I'm not a millionaire ! I can keep trying for it but there are no guarantees - unless the taxpayer would like to purchase the whole of the next multi rollover Euro lottery fund on my behalf !
No ?
I'll get on with my life then !
“I suspect she’s actually a former clown.”
She’s a devout Guardianista, which is much the same thing.
Not long ago Ms Birkett tried to convince us that she was being crushed and humiliated by the “cultural apartheid” of, er, Tate Modern’s building work. The renovation of a gallery being all but indistinguishable from the townships of 1970s South Africa.
It goes without saying that the full story, which Ms Birkett took care not to divulge, was somewhat less dramatic.
I don't see that it matters whether you pay tax or not, I just don't think IVF is something the NHS should be funding. I've said it plenty of times - children are not a right, they are a privilege. That they're a privilege most people are able to come by naturally doesn't make them any less so.
Circus performer? FFS! I'll tell you what dear; try sticking your head in a Lion's mouth. Not your Lion, mine...
Another professional moaner on the make; clearly, her model is Y A-B.
Mad bitch, or innocent victim of the Jacobin agenda?
The former, I think...
Julia,
If only these Nigerians DID skedaddle home afterwards.
"Let me see if I have understood this aright: The NHS spends a fortune putting babies into some women's tummies and then spends an even bigger fortune aborting babies of other women's tummies?"

"former clown.."
Former?
@ David Thompson ..
"She’s a devout Guardianista, which is much the same thing" ...
Indeed David, as regularly & tiresomely proven by Yabba-Yabba Ali-Baba & the other deluded cretins who either write for or support that rag, which is unfit to even wipe one's bum on ..
I am expecting Rupert Murdoch to warn that The Guardian is what you get if there is no phone hacking. Makes you think.

That's about it, Tinky. But it only works properly for Guardian readers if the first lot of babies are black and the second lot are white.

Spot on!
"She’s a devout Guardianista, which is much the same thing. "
Heh!
"If only these Nigerians DID skedaddle home afterwards."
Yes, good point.
"I am expecting Rupert Murdoch to warn that The Guardian is what you get if there is no phone hacking. Makes you think."
Oooh, indeed!
