Don't They Know There's A War On?

In November Northumbria police announced increased numbers of firearms officers on patrol, and invited people with concerns to "chat" with them.
What a great idea!
Thousands of people responded to the force's pictures on Facebook and Twitter.
Ah, see the heartwarming power of social media? Bringing people together and...

Oh.
Comments included: "Please keep your guns away from our children."
Errr...
"Armed police does (sic) everything but 'reassure' the public, it makes us really uncomfortable. This isn't the states!"
No, in the States, you can count on owning your own gun to defend yourself!
"I do not want to live in a country where it's a daily occurrence to see armed police with semi automatic weapons patrolling our streets and our Xmas events."
I don't want to live in one where terrorists get a free run at stabbing and running over people. Especially one invited here by our own government..
Supt Steve Neill said: "In terms of posing with children, that would be at the request of children or their parents or grandparents.
"What we are trying to say is that these are just police officers who happen to have a gun.
"Don't be alarmed, don't be scared, go and have a chat with them."
The police must despair at times. I know I do.

Having lived in France and Canada where both countries police forces carry side arms. I did at first feel very uncomfortable at the sight of them but soon got over it(as any reasonable person would). However I noted that the French carrying them was more scary than that of the Canadians. The reason being is the attitude of the two were quite different. In Canada the feeling was they were carrying them to protect you whilst in France the feeling was that they were carrying them to intimidate.

Maybe if the population were allowed to own guns and defend their own homes in this country the snowflakes would get a better view of life in general.

Wasn't it some (Trotsky)Labour government after WWII that decided it would feel safer if the population were disarmed and set out to make that happen by hook or by crook, even manufacturing 'incidents' to make the people fear gun ownership.

Fair's fair. The cops would be more than willing to 'chat' with an ordinary citizen who 'just happened to have' a gun. Possibly even before shooting them.

Try to change 'Police Officers' with 'Citizens' in that last statement and the police would have none of it whatsoever. But it's ok for them, apparently.

The French don't mess about. No one wants their photo taken with a gendarme.

In this country, outside of field sports & farmers, the only ones with guns are those you need a gun to fend off!

Certainly not us. We've immune by now.

"But it's ok for them, apparently."

Ain't it always?
