TV Theme Retrospective: The Odd Couple

Opposites attract, they say, and never more so was that a factor than in the US-inspired ‘buddy’ movie or TV series. Many odd pairings were given an airing – animals (‘B.J. And The Bear’), robots (‘Holmes and Yo-Yo’), ghosts (‘Randall and Hopkirk: Deceased’), holograms (‘Automan’).

My favourite, for its catchy theme and parolee-and-retired-judge team, was ’Hardcastle & McCormick’.

The two leads had great chemistry, and although it wasn’t a very long-running series, only stretching to three seasons, I always looked forward to it.

It’ll come as no surprise to see that the theme was another Mike Post creation, with Stephen Geyer and sung by David Morgan.

Next month's theme: Roll Call!.

You forgot Philo Beddoe (Clint Eastwood) and Clyde the orang-utan in Every Which Way But Loose and Any Which Way You Can.
